Proper Prepaid Mastercard

I am sorry if this is not the correct place but I have a question....

It is possible to get a Prepaid Mastercard that looks like a real mastercard ?, as I have the Virgin Prepaid Card and it has 'FOR ELECTRONIC USE ONLY' on the front !, and is of course flat and not embossed, this makes it look not real (So to speak !), I remember I had a cashplus card (When they were blue and first came out), I could use it everywhere, I used it at some shops and it never sough authorisation under a certain limit, and I could use it at the Pay at Pump petrol stations (You can't do that with Virgin), and I actually used it to pay for car hire (At a small local car hire firm) and I am not to sure about that on Virgin ?.

So does anyone else have a prepaid mastercard that looks and acts like a proper card !, or should I just go back to the Cashplus one but on the £1 per transactions as I only plan on using it for emergencies.

Thanks

The neteller card's the best prepaid mastercard out there afaik.

Card's free, topups are 50p, no transaction fees. £2 to withdraw at a cash machine though.

It's a proper chip and pin card, it's embossed and has a signature strip etc.

It's actually provided by Altair, but I think you have to pay for the card if you go through them. If you go through Neteller it's free.

How quickly did you get it, and have you ever had problems using it in places ?, also do you know if you can use it for car hire ?.

Why don't you get a Capital One Classic Visa or Barclays Initial etc.? They are proper "credit cards" that can be used everywhere but have a high interest rate. As long as you pay the bill off in full every month, you won't have to pay any interest and it turns out a lop cheaper than pre-paid cards.

Hi, Thanks for that but it is not something I would qualify for, for various reasons.

CashPlus it is for you then. The card number is embossed and there's no "electronic use only" printed on the card.

This card can be used to hire car but you will need to apply for this service.

They also have this Credit Builder service that reports monthly to CRA. You can improve your credit rating!

Cashplus might be useful for the credit rebuilding service, but to actually use it for shopping would be expensive. Either an up-front fee and a monthly fee, or a £1 a pop transaction fee.

I've never had trouble using it, but I hardly use it. I've never used it for car hire, but if you take a read at the altair site I'm sure it'll be easy enough to find out.

How fast did you get your card ?, and how do you top it up ?, there web site says debit cards are 1.75% and Bank Transfer is free ?.

    Thanks.

Be very careful with this credit builder lark, I wasted £14 signing up for the stupid card only to find out that I cant get the credit builder service as I don’t hold a passport or drivers licence, and they don’t make it very clear about that either until you delve into the terms and conditions.

I have Cashplus, applied on a friday in one of their outlets and recieved my Card the following friday. I then phoned to change to the £1 per transaction plan and was done immediatly and £4.95 payment for first months fees was refunded within 10 minutes.

My husband also has a Cashplus card and has had for 2 years now with no hassle, he to is on the £1 per transaction and has worked out ok as he only uses it now and again where Electron is not accepted.

You can top it up at Post Office for free and although they say can take 3 days I have seen it going on same day, can also top up at their athorised outlets, list on their site and the money goes on almost immedietly.

I do a bit of online gambling, so I have money in the Neteller account usually. I just transfer out to the card from that.

I got the card within a week I think. It was a couple of months ago, so I'm not 100% sure. It didn't take long, that's for sure.

There's a payzone logo on the back of the card, so I assume you can topup there too. Bank transfer's your best bet though.
