    I paid £200 a month plus BT + internet + contents insurance. Paid for all my own toiletries and did my own laundry. Also gave my dad extra if something needed fixing. I've just moved into my new house with OH.

    I think £280 is fair. If you think it is too much, put some into a savings account as a gift for when she gets married/buys a house. But obviously don't tell her this. I'd let her save up her own deposit for renting in the future.

    I always though 1/4 of take home pay was fair, and on top of that to pay all big extras like posh shampoo, beer, fancy foods, extra broadband etc. themselves.

    So your £280 a month isn't far off. That will still leave her around £750 a month to play with if she uses ordinary food and toiletries.

    More than may of us 'real' adults have to spend, so she's not doing badly.:beer:
