Five companies (including four flogging double glazing) have been censured by the Information Commissioner for making phone calls to people have registered with the TPS. story here :-

Yes im now getting problems with 0845 300 5044. Googling around brings up a yahoo answers page which gives advice based on this very number so its clearly irritating an awful lot of people!
What is annoying is that my phone is registered with the telephone preference service, I always check to make sure i never give permission for people to send me spam in email (unless im genuinely interested) or to phone or to send spam snail mail AND now I find that silent calls or computer generated calls that just go beep beep beep in your ear are not covered by the telephone preference service?
I just phoned BT who tell me that they have a service that can block up to 10 numbers for a charge. I guess if you get more than 10 numbers though you are in trouble! OR there is an 0870 number which you can stop it by. But Ive been online and it seems that this is a company and obviously companies are there (just like my own company) to make a profit right? So you have to pay them to stop nuisance phone calls just the same as you would have to pay BT?
There is an interesting article up at http://business.scotsman.com/technology.cfm?id=1673432005 which deals with a call centre asking for stricter regulation of cold calling because they feel if things go unchecked everybody will be adding themselves to the telephone preference service and they will be out of business. Yes your heart bleeds for them doesnt it? LOLBut of course the silent calls will continue I guess until they do something about that!

Yes, my heart does bleed for them (not!). Why should they depend on cold-calls to drum up business ? It's annoying and mostly counter-productive. They should stick to conventional forms of advertising, where the recipient has the option to read the advert or not. You do not have this option where you have your meal-times and other activities interrupted by cold-callers.What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

The TPS website does give advice about Silent Calls. Apparently you can register with the Silent Callgard Service. Guess what their number is...
0870 4443969.
I found this post via google after searching the 0870 4443969 number found at TPS, I have read through most of this thread to find an alternative number to 0870 but was unable to see one.
I have now found a link to the web site to register free with Silent Call Guard for 12 months:-
http://www.silentguard.co.uk/
and SayNoTo0870 list a free phone number as 0800 0831138

I had a call from the local Conservative Party so I politely told the lady that I was registered with TPS and she was committing an offence. "Oh no," she says, "this has been debated by John Prescott in the House of Commons and and it has been deemed that the law does not apply to political parties."
Thanks John for that. I register with a service to indicate that I don't want cold calls from anyone, and you decide that it doesn't apply to you.
What's worse it the opposition party agrees with them because it suits them too.

But how do you know if that woman from the Conservative Party was telling the truth? You've only got her word for it about the whole John Prescott thing. She could have just been spinning you a line. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Royal Bank of Scotland , 0845 602 9441 silent calls, anyone got some high up chairmans address or email address??

I've had tonnes of silent and the even more annoying automated dialler message ones recently - despite being ex directory, TPS registered and having caller ID on the phone.
The problem is - I rely on my phone for work bookings, and one of the agencies I work for has a switchboard which comes up as withheld number - so I can't auto-reject them. The recorded message ones are the worst because they clog up my answerphone with the message day after day after day - and if you press to connect to an operator to request the number's not called... well I've been told to "eff off" by one charming young man.
Keep complaining to TPS and ICO but nothing is being done - the calls start at about 7am, peak at 2pm (just when I tend to get booking calls for the following day's work), and then again just at 6pm when you sit down to eat your tea and I've had them as late as 11pm at night.
Not to mention the Indian call centre who ring me 3 times a day to speak to Mrs White - despite being told 3 times a day that there never has, and never will be a Mrs White here.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0
