I had a call last week what played music for about 3 seconds then a womans voice with a strange accent came on and just said "Thank you and goodbye".The number was witheld so I phoned NTL to ask if it was one of those dodgy calls what charge you for answering, luckily enough it wasn`t.
I always get those calls from india trying to sell me phones and after reading these post I cant wait for my next one.I`m gunna bombard them with my own questions.I think it`ll be quite funny.Debt Free Date:10/09/2007 :j :money:0 -
Anyway I did get mad but never set up an auto macro but I did set up a macro that made a complaint with two mouse clicks.
You should see all the emails I got fom Ofcom then followed by letters. LOL
I told one supervisor what I was doing and every time you silent call me I will post a new complaint. She was not a happy bunny.
Not had hardly any recently, can't wait for them to start again.0 -
I have just had a phone call from Anglia Home Improvements. I told the girl that I have been registered with the TPS for over 2 years. She more or less called me a liar and said that if I was actually registered with the TPS then it it would "have been impossible" for them to have rung me. I then said I was going to report them to the TPS she said "OK go ahead and do it" and hung up. When I dialled 1471 it actually came up with a number - 01476 560081 , but it was one of those numbers that won't accept incoming calls. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

Another good time-wasting ploy is to ask for the address of their head office. Then ask them to spell every word, read it back incorrectly and so on.
It drives them mad - they have to make so many calls per hour to hit their targets and you are slowing them down. If you slam your phone down immediately they read it as 'I'm not interested this time, move quickly on to the next victim but please call me back soon'.
Best to let them know that if they are going to cold call you - you are going to screw with them big time.
Hope this doesn't sound too bitter and twisted - it's good fun really.

I've just received a silent call today from 08700 500 524. It really got to me as I was sleeping at the time.
A google search revealed that many people are having problems with silent calls, many of them post or view this forum.
Anyone who receives a silent call should complain to Ofcom. Once levels of complaints to Ofcom on a particular issue rise, they will take notice and take action. It has been reported in the media recently that silent calls are becoming an increasing nuisance, and higher fines of upto £50,000 are being considered.
Ofcom.co.uk has a quick and straightforward form to fill in for complaints about silent calls. Go on, hit em where it hurts and get em fined!

I had missed call from the 1st number last week,i rang it to , to hear a answering machine say contecting your call, i quickly hung up. the 2nd number today( Monday) .
I was worried i was missing important calls so i googled both the numbers and found this site.

""This entry is for google to pick up - If you get a call on your mobile from this number (08700 426 655) do not call it back.
When you answer it - the line will go dead - if you call it back you could be calling a premium rate number (no I didnt do it luckily - it looked odd so I researched it) or it could also be a dodgy telecom company auto-dialing loads of people at once (this practice is borderline illegal - depending on how many people they drop whilst doing it - some companies have been fined) so that their sales staff are fed constant calls to cold sell to.
It seems (and I have other reasons why I suspect) that at sometime Orange mobile sold my mobile phone number to somebody. Obviously then that list gets sold on and sold on again etc. Not a good thing to do for a large company such as themselves.""A smile and manners doesnt cost any thing0 -

If you call an 0870 number you cant possibly be calling a premium rate number, and its not possible to change the cost of a call in mid flight. You would just be charged the appropriate rate for a call to a non geographical 0870 number.
A useful site for finding the normal geographical number behind 0870 numbers is https://www.saynoto0870.com
Code: 0870 042
Type: Service
Operator: Telecoms World
Tariff Band: National rate (NTS) (inc VAT)
Service: Service0 -
As previously mentioned on the MSE forum, BT have actually made the statement that 0870 numbers are Premium Rate tariffs. It may only be pence in some cases, but others are a pound a minute or more. Irrespective of the amount, they cost more than a geographical number, and more than any UK landline inclusive call package numbers, therefore they are premium rate by anyones definition.

0870 0426655 is apparently Docklands Telecom, an infamous nuisance. The thread on Saynoto0870 is here.0 -

ICSTIS does not regulate this type of number. However we can tell you the following.
* This is classified as a Special Services higher rate: BT’s Standard National Call Retail Price for BT customers number.
* It is provided by TelXL Ltd.
eg TelXL has 0870 067 0000 to 0870 067 9999
Why does the government allow these known numbers to be used in every con scam theft and fraud you can imagine.
In 1997 the telecom industry was privatised. The grovernment put up the licences to operate the networks to the highest bidders.
Before the city investors lent the bidding consortiums the billions the government were asking for, they put in place conditions.
They did not want the market place to be over regulated (policed).
Basically they did not want the public to be over protected with consumer or criminal laws.
That's why this happened.
