l had silent calls and and some calls from a person saying he is a customer care manager from "three network" and was trying to sell something. this is going on since octomber last year. onetime i was receiving the silent and three network calls almost everyday. i di everything i could do i think to stop it. registered with tps. rang ntl and ask wether they can help me a request the caller not to call me. ntl gave me the code for to stop annoymous phone calls which is i think *227#. i put that code in and next minute this phone call from the three network.eventhough the code is stopping annonymous callers it did not stop this even though it is an annoymous call.
i thought getting angry or frustrated not going to help.
next time i spoke to him in my own language then he said he can speak slowly slowly if i don't understand english. i kept answering in my language and then he offered me to speak in Hindi though i am from a neighbouring country i did not understand hindi. i told him i like watching hindi movies still on my own language i think he thought that he is not getting anywhere and hung up and since then no calls from three network.
not like previous calls i enjoyed that minute or two by taking him.
if you get calls like these adopt to something like this and it will be stopped!!!0 -
When I get these, if I can find out who it is from, I always, without fail, register a complaint with the TPS. This is bacause I am registered with the TPS and so there is no excuse.
I got an email from TPS once telling me that someone I had complained about had just been fined - I think it was for £50,000 or something like that.
So, it's well worth complaining!0 -

Please keep complaining, ideally directly to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), rather than via the TPS company.
Check that message again. The best that could have happened was that the company complained about was included in the quarterly list of offendors that is sent by the TPS company to the ICO.
The ICO has never used its powers against anyone for breaching the regulation requiring respect for numbers registered on the TPS.
Similarly Ofocm has never used its powers to require anyone to stop making Silent Calls.
Keep up the pressure on the regulators.

I think part of the problem is that OFCOM introduced new rule in (I think) March of this year, something to the effect that:
The call failure rate can be no more than 3%
The company must not withold the number
They must provide a recorded message to say who they are.
Which is all well and good apart from the fact that because the numbers aren't witheld any more, anonymous call reject is ineffective and more of the damn things get through :mad:0 -

I will accept credit / blame for Ofcom including the recorded message provision - that stops the silence, the real anonymity - but not the others, which I opposed.
It is possible, but unlikely, that a caller who caused annoyance, and commonly wasted their own time, by calling TPS-registered numbers would spend the money necessary to comply with these provisions.
Fake CLI is a trick commonly used to get around ACR, which has other downsides as well as cost.
Please keep complaining to Ofcom, the ICO and the media - they think that these new rules have closed the issue.

I've been getting these in the last few weeks, so I have registered with TPS.
Thanks for the details.
Does anyone know the one to use for the junk mail?

I have just started getting silent calls from Capitalone (0800 4220 292) I have contacted them on 0800 952 5150 but they seem unable to do anything about it, even though I am a member and have my account flaged as not to recieve calls, we are ex directory and always have been, we are registered with the TPS (0845 0700 707) and today I have also registered with the Call Blocker service (0870 444 3969).
I have set up a complaints macro to ofcon and every time they ring now I am sending a new complaint, only takes a few clicks of mouse.Silent_Calls_Victim wrote:I will accept credit / blame for Ofcom including the recorded message provision - that stops the silence, the real anonymity - but not the others, which I opposed.
Not with Capitalone it don't, only time you get a message is when you phone it back. Then it tells you to phone another number.
If I get really angry I will set up a macro to run all night while I sleep just sending complaints.0 -
i have been getting silents calls but the number is withheld would it be one of these companies or some nutter?"You have succeeded in life when all you really want is only what you really need"

Cold Callers - Don't get mad, Get even.
Cold callers work from a script. They ask you questions usually with 'yes' or 'no' answers - usually 'yes' to start with to get you used to using the word.
Number one rule is - do not answer any of their questions. Instead always reply with a question of your own -
Where are you calling from?, how did you get this number?, did you know I'm ex-directory/ registered with the TPS? (use this even if you're not!) ...etc
This throws the caller as it does not follow their script. It also wastes their time, reduces their call numbers and therefore reduces their 'hits'.
If you run out of questions just repeat the previous ones - which company did you say you were again?
Try to see how many questions you can ask before they give up on you. You will actually get to enjoy it!
You will very quickly get 'blacklisted'.
Unfortunately I don't get cold calls anymore.0 -
