go on then, i'll give 32 bit a try as i figure more likely to have driver support. i did seen ndiswrapper before, but still struggles (i suppose an ok understanding of dos doesnt help with linux ?!)

Just to add to the discussion.
I dual boot XP with PCLinuxOS. The PCLOS is used just for email, surfing and playing music whilst doing so.
Due to being too mean to buy a new HD it has to fit on a 6 gb partition, and works fast and trouble free.
The last Ubuntu caused lots of crashes and in my case was much worse than 7.04

I've tried about 6 different flavours, always on this 2nd HD (which also has a fat32 partition), and I've never managed to mess up any other partitions.
    Just manually set the sizes.
    Move along, nothing to see.

If you use the command line sometimes when using Linux, you'll see that it's similar in some ways to DOS. So an understanding is helpful, but not necessary. Many Linux users never use the command line (It's like using Start > Run > cmd with Windows).

Just got the release candidate installed on my machine. All is working well so far.

Firefox is the only noticeable problem. Quite a few of my extensions aren't supported by Firefox 3 b5. Namely Google Browser Sync, Firebug, ScreenGrab and Tab Mix Plus.

Things like Adblock Plus and Greasemonkey work though.

All running smoothly so far. I'll blog about it this week and post the link.

Basically, it's slightly more polished, subtle improvements to the UI and graphics. Packages which I used beforehand like Brasero and Transmission are now included by default.

One of the biggest improvements for me, is being able to autologin, and it connect to my wireless without asking for any keyring passphrases etc... Autologin was fine for wired connections, but was a real pain for wireless connections. I'm glad they've fixed this.

Also it's more responsive and boots/shuts down much faster. My times are down on average about 2-3 seconds according to bootchart.

Truecrypt works more seamlessly, and Skype is now included in the repositories.

I've only installed it on one pc so far, so it'll be interesting to see how it copes on other pc's. It wouldn't load on my laptop (!?) which has always been the most compatible in the past. Firefox 3 b5 is great, although it's frustrating that 3 or 4 of my plugins (especially google browser sync) don't work. Apparently Google haven't even started on creating a version of browser sync that is compaitble with Firefox 3.

I did lose all my desktop panels at one point (!) but thanks to the command line I manged to restore them. I was using an existing "home" directory which may have been the problem.

I've also tried switching to the 64-bit version once again as I've got 4gb RAM. So at the moment, no flash as it doesn't support 64-bit Linux. Come on Adobe!
