Jack the car up on that corner, hold the wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions, and try to move it (not rotate). Is there any play?0

So far
New brake pads fitted, pistons greased
New ABS fitted, plus all fluids, new brake pads
New caliper fitted, new brake pads
This is by three different garages.
I have lost all faith (and dosh!) now. And really don't know how to go about diagnosing this problem.0 -

Crossed posts there, I will get OH to do this over the weekend and check it out.

I had the same problem as you yesterday, but was able to diagnose the problem myself.
Phoned Garage and told him. I actually bought the Pads and Disks off the internet , brought them to him to fit and saved myself £100 (another story)
Why didn't you take it back to the first garage and say it's not fixed...?
You have a choice of three now. In this case I would take it back to the last garage ask them why they have changed the pads (again) and caliper only for the problem to still be there. In fact I would send your Husband, Brother, any Bloke who they can't rip off any more.
The idea is they change something and the problem is fixed... if the problem is not what was the point of changing it.
If he diagnosed the calipers as the problem and it doesn't fix it then that's his problem.0 -

It's not magic - something is clearly wrong.
Garages like to replace things to fix problems. You need to work out what hasn't been replaced and then investigate what might be wrong.
Are you sure that the master cylinder isn't sticking on. I once had this problem. Basically the pedal was sticking in the slightly on position, causing the brakes to apply themsevles and wear the pads.
This might sound a bit mad, but when driving along if you hear the grinding noise thnen use your foot to pull the brake pedal fully up.
Actually, re-reading your description makes me think that that could be a good contender.Happy chappy0 -
Like i said previously you still havent had the flexible pipe replaced..??
Yes your quite right we haven't. I had forgotten about it as we had to wait for some more dosh so that we could get the caliper done.
Is there a name for this pipe, when I google flexible pipe ABS there are quite a lot of results mostly about water pipes. Do you have any idea how much a new pipe might be please?

I will try it anyway, I am willing to do pretty much anything now. I am so fed up about it.
