That's really relevant to the fact that they are taking on employees, thanks.0

Of course! Would you expect them to do nothing to generate interest in their developments?
The real point is, people are made redundant all the time, having a ready made excuse to get rid of poorly performing staff has been used for years. And despite the economic conditions, companies will always been ready to hire people with a good track record in their field.0 -
i know of 2 phd research chemists (different companies) who are loseing their jobs as the companys are cutting back on research into cancer drugs because of funding issues, thanks very much HPI0

me?
no glaxso smithcline is on of them, cant remember the other company
bit of a shame that one of them has basicly got a first class phd, 2 years post doctoral work but is talking about jacking it in to be a shop chemist so he is able to get a perminant job somewhere he can afford to buy a house.0 -
What on earth has this got to do with house price crash?
There is a terminal shortage in funding for research, always has been. It is nothing new. Do you actually understand the way research is funded?0 -

You have to be kidding me right? You're saying GSK is cutting back due to a house price crash??
:rotfl:
I work in pharmaceuticals.
The sector started cutting back a few years ago. Aggressive patent competition from Indian and Chinese companies have far more to do with it than any house price concerns or any "general economy downturn"
The secotr as a whole has been poor for the last five years or so... only now might we have some relatively good performances... but that will be relative... ie IF there is a recession.0 -

Thank you thank you thank you
Some common sense at last. I cannot believe some people really think that 1. the house price crash has caused this, 2. that drugs companies weren't making redundancies before and 3. that people with PhDs are immune to redundancy.
Oh dear it really does make me wonder why I even come on this forum.0 -
I picked up 3 new contracts this week, doubling my workload. I therefore deny the existance of a slow-down in the economy.
A statement equally as obtuse as the original implication of this thread.0
