From two girls I know
One of their hubbies is facing certain redundancy, possibly not enough money in the pot to pay them their redundancy at the end of the month so will need the assistance of government payout which will take up to 6 weeks.. and then its capped isn't it regardless of how many years / how much you earn etc.
The other has had an email today to say there are redundancies imminently and she hasn't been their long enough to qualify for redundancy money. She is just in the process of buying another property.
The credit crunch is well and truly biting...

Do you know what industry they're in?0 -
errrr loads of people I know have been made redundant over the years, nothing to do with any form of credit crunch.
When Longbridge shut, half my friends and their parents lost their jobs, and it was nothing to do with house price crashes!
I feel sorry for these people but it is pretty irrelevant in the scheme of things! Like saying I know a person who smoked all his life and then lived till 90 being proof that smoking is not bad for you.0 -

Erm, one works as a legal secretary... and the other's husband works at a book binders... so I would pretty much say credit crunch biting here.
Edited to say, Longbridge shut because Rovers just weren't selling because they are cr&p cars to many, and before you bite my head off I own a Rover 25 and love it to bits.0 -
What a pointless thread.0

So because of the credit crunch nobody is suing anybody anymore and books aren't going to be bound anymore???
I agree with Dan what a pointless thread....0 -

I still don't understand this, people get made redundant all the time, it happens year in year out, whether the housing market is going up or down.
Longbridge was just an example of people losing their jobs during a boom time. Although it could have had a slight impact on house prices in Northfield/longbridge/rubery, but totally besides the point.0 -
Some people get made redundant all the time.
Wholesale closures and job losses are also coming through as a direct result of the credit crunch.
So, some of these would have been redundant anyway ... but over the next 1-2 years there will be a lot that can be traced back to the credit crunch.
Round here (South Wales) estate agents have already started closing.0 -

Both these girls live in complete different areas of the country, from the south west and in sheffield so could be just one of those things, but I do think we will see more people being made redundant in the coming months.
The thing that struck me is that both mentioned these redundancies on the same day when I've not heard of anybody being made redundant for quite some while.
I personally think its a sign of the times to come.0 -

Thats why its called 'ANECDOTAL'... you might find it pointless, but I don't. Like I said above, I belive its a sign of the times to come and redundancies will become more frequent as the credit crunch bites.0 -
