What i mean is we are attributing things that have nothing to do with the so called credit crunch, redundancies happen...

I've never bought a house because "prices only ever go up" i guess you have never bought a house  and no matter what happens never will.

with respect, izzy (not that you seem to be getting much of that here), the redundancy corallation looks a bit suspect. different walks of life/parts of Uk, etc.

you could be right viz slowdown.

but mser's might need more persuasive evidence.

    agreed?

The thing that struck me is that both mentioned these redundancies on the same day when I've not heard of anybody being made redundant for quite some while.

I personally think its a sign of the times to come.

I'm not sure where you live but in the South East there have been redundancies in many sectors for several years now. However, if the credit crunch continues then I expect that there will be many more to follow.
Now debtfree except for the mortgage!

A lot of the people where I work have full time day jobs as well as part time jobs in the restaurant. One of the waitresses came in last night, very upset because she had lost her full time job, along with two others in a travel agents in the town.

I have to confess (other than feeling terribly sorry for her) I didn't think anything of it, credit crunch or anything else. My first thought was only that these things happen and there but for the grace of God go I.

I know of folks who worked for conveyancing solicitors being made redundant, and this is in one of the wealthiest towns in the south.

Well that proves it then. We are all doomed, houses are going to drop by 70% and even then we won't be able to buy them as we will all be unemployed, the banks are all going to go bust along with our savings and perhaps nuclear war will break out at the same time.

Well it's likely that in a downturn and property 'correction', anybody who works in property, or related activities are much more at risk of lay-off.
    Ditto Retail .
    Ditto Financial services.
We are seening eveidence of that already, bar retail... but that will be along soon.

Having said this i'm sure there will be a boom in employment for Baliff's, debt collectors, insolvency practitioners, security companies, police service, homeless and deprived kids charities, fag and booze companies, bookies, agriculture, and so forth.

    Every cloud.....
