This is technically covering for striking teachers so he really shouldn't be doing this.

A bit over the top but....... commonly known as being a Scab and in the early eighties usually ended in some sort of revenge attack :shhh:....... Not a phrase to be used in some parts of Yorkshire
Fair play to the teacher for putting the kids first but i'm not sure how the union would react :o

My husband is going to work from home. I have one son at school that day and one off!!! It's typical that I am being externally observed for my college course that day in younger son's school so I cannot be there for my older son.
I feel sorry for parents in our area who had to take two days holiday around the Easter weekend (INSET and extra day off for Easter Tuesday???), then the school has just had their 2 week Easter break, and within 4 days, the school is closed again for one day.

what are you striking for this time, not enough paid 'childcare emergencies' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Its over pay (2%)/pensions and conditions again!
But we could have another because the paid special leave has since been taken off us!

Ours is the PCS union, and i've heard that there are others striking Thursday, aswell as the NUT.

I've had letters from both kids schools tonight, they'll be open as usual. Does anyone know exactly how many schools are acutally going to be closed?

Surely entire schools should not be shut because all the teachers are not in the same union. Headteachers have a separate union too dont they?
My employer needed loads of notice for holiday dates, so I will probably have to make up my hours some other time next week or whenever... (sick child today, losing my day off on Thurs...) and before anyone says it I do not see school as a childminding service, but the impact of this action is hitting us parents and not causing the government any lost sleep at all.

The letter I got from the infant school said that teachers in each yr group were in the union and wished to strike as they agreed with the issues so the school would be closed.

The letter from juniors just said school not affected, but then I heard a member of staff say that only 4 teachers were in that union. No idea what they are doing about those 4 particular teachers classes.

It seems very patchy to me, so not sure how much 'of a statement' it will make. Instead they should all strike for 1 - 2 weeks, so I can find a cheap holiday:rotfl: that's if I book it before the travel companies got wind of it.

Just to clear up one misconception on this thread - the decision as to whether to close a school or not rests with the headteacher and the governors. It's not down to the LEA, however much they might encourage schools to remain open. I work for an LEA but I still won't know until tomorrow whether or not my son's school will be open on Thursday! (Although preparing for it not to be).

I don't agree, he is always staying late putting in extra hours so that they can cover more than can be covered in the lesson time, he puts in extra time so that pupils that have a free session can come and do more then, he is very dedicated and does this all the time. If this was a one off I would agree and think it wasn't right but this is just what he does as normal, he is not doing it for the school he is doing it for the pupils and considering there are only 12 pupils he takes for music tech it won't have any impact anyway. These pupils are 17 and have been told to go into school as normal and study on their own in the library.

What I don't like about the whole thing is that we received a letter which came through the post this morning letting us know about the strike on Thursday. My sons school has 2800 pupils so that has probably amounted to a large amount of letters. Probably cost a lot in postage and all of that waste of paper. There really should be email notifications.
