Just a thought on which people might want to have their viewpoint.....
I'm contemplating sending my LEA an invoice for the cost of childcare for next weeks one day teachers strike, i've been given only six days official notice, can't now book time off work (need seven days) and am thoroughly peeved that it's going to cost me £60. Does anyone know if there is a duty by the LEA to provide education ?????
Any thoughts ????

They have a duty to provide education, not childcare. I don't think you'd get very far, annoying though it is.0

I'm not sure about the LEA's responsibility, but are you sure the school is actually going to be closed? It is only one union on strike, and I know that the vast majority of schools will use cover staff, non-striking teachers, and management staff to cover those who won't be there.0

Not a chance ,,,,however if you used a childminder presumably you could claim the extra cost as childcare element on tax credit.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

The school is opening, about 8 out of 14 classes aren't taking place. Crazy thing is that one of the teachers is off on compassionate leave for a month !!!!!0 -
We only have 1 teacher at our school in the NUT union who is striking on Thursday. I do know however that you cannot bring in relief staff or other staff within the school to cover the post. All the other unions have sent info out to their staff telling them not to cover the class. I think it won't be long untill the other teaching unions come out in support as well.0

They won't, they are not to use non-striking teachers to cover for striking colleagues, and as far as I am aware "employment businesses", ie supply agencies, are not allowed to supply staff to cover for industrial action either.
6 days notice is not too bad, legally they have to give you two days notice. It has been in the press for a few weeks though, so it was always likely your childrens school would be closed.LBM:1/1/12Debts @ LBM:£43,546  Debts now: £9,486  78% PAIDFound YNAB 1/2/14 - the best thing EVER!0 -
I think each of my kids in turn will have a day 'educated off site' in the near future;)Member no.1 of the 'I'm not in a clique' group :rotfl:

Actually, i'm warming to the idea now, maybe the government should hold out and let the them all strike for a week, we can get a cheap week i the med then ....
got to say though, the six or seven teachers i know well wouldn't last more than a couple of days on strike due to severe wallet twitching :rotfl:Sarahsaver wrote: »I think each of my kids in turn will have a day 'educated off site' in the near future;)
:T:T........
i know where to tell the head to go when he tells me i can't take the kids out of school for a week in July !!!
Maybe all the parents should go on 'Sats' strike in May....see how that goes down in the school and LEA !!!!0 -
What would happen if i just dropped the kids off at school on that day ?????0
