    Thought i'd update this...

We've struggled a bit this month as still adjusting from our old lifestyle to the lifestyle we must now lead what with the mortgage and bills to pay.

Nearly broke down at my computer this morning when I got an email from payroll saying that they would be taking £100 from my wage in June for the excess on my company car insurance. I was involved in an accident last month, and the other party admitted full liability so I assumed that costs would be recovered from his insurer, but they are still taking my excess and will only repay it once the claim is settled.

I've explained that this will mean we may struggle financially, but they don't listen and we'll just have to cut right back... Damn them!

Good news on the car front is that the claim has been settled in my favour and since its been settled early in the month, they won't be taking anything out of my June pay :)

There have been tears and tantrums recently over the money situation, and whilst at the time its awful, I think its done us some good because its made us realise that stuff can be changed and will have to be changed.

Shopping is the one thing we have cut back on, my SOA shows £200 a month but its now looking more like £100-£150 at worst, we've cut out things like buying Actimel, and buying Smart Price yoghurts instead of Muller etc

Every spare penny at the minute is going into the savings account for the wedding, all our credit card debts are on 0% so the minimum is being paid on them, we figured that at the minute savings is more important than throwing everything at the debt, because if we don't have enough money for the wedding, then we'd just have to take on more debt anyway...

That is good news about the accident and one less thing to worry about.

How much do you have to save for the wedding and how far have you got?

    Best of luck :)

Re the wedding, including the Honeymoon, I would say we need to save around £5k and have about £700 so far. A lot of it hinges on me passing my exams and getting a generous first time pass bonus, I am also inline for a standard work bonus, and my OH is getting a bonus for passing an exam also. If I pass my exams, along with the bonus, my take home pay will go up around £500 a month, and will mean that a lot of our money problems will seem insignificant compared to what they seem now!

Obviously if I don't pass, its going to make things difficult but we will have to work through it I guess, I don't want to think about that scenario at the minute!!

Yorkshire Water are coming to fit a water meter on Friday, hopefully that will shave off about £15 a month off their bill.

*crosses fingers* for a good exam result for you.

Sounds like you are making headway, nearly one fifth of the way to the wedding money already!

Thanks Hayley, not sure what to expect re the results, I keep thinking that if I think that I have failed, then if I do, it won't be as much of a disappointment, its just so hard to tell.... Would help if they didn't leave you waiting for a couple of months! Feels like forever.

Had some good news today, got a £3k payrise and a £630 bonus! Woop!

Pay rise should increase my net take home pay by arond £170 a month (depending on Student Loan deductions).
