Give the bloke a break, he's come here offering to help, he has direct experience of the industry, and suggests he still has contacts able to resolve some issues, stuck radius profiles etc., which as far as i am aware, the rest of us are unable to do. All of us have repeated the same old stuff about test sockets, filters, line stats, it would be nice if there was a guide here we could link to, and kelticfox is attempting one, breaking it down into bitesize sections. Fran's list of links, which was linked to, doesn't appear to include any basic troubleshooting guides

We know from past experience that when forum users have a problem they post their own question relating to their specific problem, the last place most users will look is in a Sticky!

The OP's proposed guide has its place where a user can no longer get on to the net, in those circumstances they can phone a friend, ask the ISP, or use the guide to do some basic fault finding.

wouldn't it be nice to say "follow the instructions <link> here rather than repeating yourself, though? Lost track of the times i've posted the same links.
i DO see your point though, expresso, though find it strange being the only one who thinks this could be a good idea

    I don't think it's a bad idea.

But it shouldn't be a dump of "high level" information. A post a problem, might be a solution.

Even then, it wouldn't fit all scenarios and people prefer to be talked through problems, in English.

Explain to me why it is complicated and will try to simplify it.

    Like I previously stated......

If you have no suggestions how how to simplify then can I please ask that you do not post in the topic again.
I understand that you think its a bad idea (yet I dont understand the reasoning behind this conclusion)

I offer assitance and you offer hinderance. I offer support yet you offer no solutions.

You may have started this thread but you clearly don't understand forum etiquette and you don't own the thread.

One of your earlier posts invited forum users to e-mail you with their problems! Not very helpful to other readers!

    Read other posts before posting.

I've tried not to make it 'high level' information as you stated.

I retract my earlier comment about not posting (it was bad form), but I do have to admit I find it extremely frustrating that it seems instead of helping make it better as a GENERAL guide of what to do (thus saving the reposted questions time and time again) you just shot holes in it.

There are a number of do this and do this, but I couldn't find anything about what the Tech Support will do and what they will ask you to do (thus you do these before hand and you save yourself a lot of hassle and time).

I dont want to turn this into a arguement, and I would greatly appreciate it if you would help wording to turn it into a general guide for all users of all technological ability to understand.

I don't mind pple PM or emailing me any problems, but these tests are in essence what I would need someone to do before I can help efficiently.

We are not trying to be argumentative but are talking from past years of experience on the forum. Many stickies have been posted but when users have a problem, they just want an answer quick like yesterday and simply don't read though the many stickes which include techno bable that a lot of users simply don't understand. They want the simplest of instructions to answer their questions.
