i think £5 more that last year ,£185.00

If your car was registered before the 1st March 2001 then car tax is based only on the engine size, with one rate for engine sizes up to and including 1549cc and one for engines over 1549cc.

Can you still get pre march 2001 cars over the 1.6 litre threshold, with the biggest most polluting engine, and still be in the over 1.6 litre £170 a year category? :D
  • I hope nobody is under any illusion that either of the other two parts of the liblabcon party will do anything different about the tax situation.

Poor old chancellor has to get the money from somewhere to keep paying for and maintaining MP's second homes, it may as well be us.

We'll be biking everywhere again soon, and doffing our caps t'gaffer as we clock on at t'mill.

Don't worry if your car is pre 01, he'll get us next year, couldn't miss a revenue raiser like that.

I'm in favour of this new tax banding. You can avoid paying these high tax rates by getting a greener car.

But what happens to the old car? Doesn't it stay in circulation, still pumping out the CO2, which is also created by the plants in your garden.

And how much waste is created making the new car, lets not stop at just the pollution from the factory but how about the workers, Dave works in the canteen and unfortunately drives a D reg Fiesta to work everyday, his boss isn't on a big salary so he drives an M reg 106 in. Those 2 workers have pumped gas into the enviroment to build your "green" car.

It's just a shame that to get free or under £35 tax, you have to spend at least £6k on the car.

Also agree with Keith, people are too eager to scrap cars and cause more rubbish and pollution, and green cars still create lots of Co2 in the manufacture process, however low their subsequent emissions while on the road.
