New Car Tax Banding - you will be shocked!!

I don't see the problem, sell your cars and get something cheaper. It's about time there was a £1000 tax band.0

Why?
I mean aren't these tax rates based on CO2 emissions?
Damn, I feel sorry for the farmers who should be facing a tax on every animal in their field which is breathing, never mind the plants which are growing in their fields.
I wonder what the labour CO2 tax bill is?0 -
And they wonder why hundereds of people are turning their back on the UK every day and moving abroad!!!If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0

Pretty simple really.Trying to think how that works in terms of this.
Four-stroke cycle (or Otto cycle)
1. Intake
2. compression
3. power
4. exhaust
Probably best leave the thinking to the Mazda engineers
Ok found this.... Fascinating
The Wankel cycle. The "A" marks one of the three apexes of the rotor. The "B" marks the eccentric shaft and the white portion is the lobe of the eccentric shaft. The shaft turns three times for each rotation of the rotor around the lobe and once for each orbital revolution around the eccentric shaft.
With a normal 4 stroke engine each bit of swept volume only sparks every other rotation of the crank. So it takes two revolutions of the crank for a bit of swept volume to produce any output.
With the rotary engine there of the chambers do a complete cycle for one revolution of the crank. Hence it processes twice as much volume of air for a single revolution.Happy chappy0 -

I thought I'd include the link to calculate your car tax:

I'm glad that some of you will be paying less for your tax - I suspect many more will be lining Gordon Browns pockets. My point is the increases are nothing to do with being less green, just as the 10% income tax band has been lost, its all smash and grab on our hard earned cash!
Cheers, MM0 -
Blimey mine is going to double in cost - will buy 12 months - when mine is up for renewal later in the year before it goes up in March 2009.[size=-2]Remember its nice to be nice and its good to share!

I am not sure this is aimed 100% at the motorist.
What this does mean is that when people buy new cars, they will be "persuaded" to buy greener cars. Market forces etc mean that the companies making cars will be forced to make their cars greener in order to maintain sales so this all has a knock on effect.
And yes it can be done.
My BMW 335D Touring will see me paying just £210 in 3 years time even though it is not a small engined super mini because BMW have actually realised that by making their cars greener, they will have an edge over the competition.0 -
What about the tax on motorcycles under 150cc?
Going from £15 to £33 - more than some cars! Even though the emissions in general are quite low and they barely contribute to congestion0
