    Its even cheaper from TV & Video Direct - £99.99 + £9.99 p&p

Click on the Review Centre link in one of the above replies, then click on the link for TV & Video Direct and it will come up as £99.99.

That's for the 5002 model - less spec, and certainly not an all-format machine. Best spend another £20 (me thinks anyway) and get a machine that will (in my opinion) be future proof - regardless of what format becomes the leader (remember BetaMax and VHS) - in the case of DVD recording we currently have DVD+R (+RW) and DVD-R (-RW). Oh yeah - there's also DVD-RAM but that expensive stuff - normally Panasonic as well.

    Cheers

  • Apology to lycrawearer , get the feeling I posted in the wrong place. Impressed with the ammount of reasearch youve done.
  • Is this the same model that was temporarily on offer at Argos for around this price at the beginning of the year?

Just as a 2nd opinion, I purchased the 5006 from Argos a couple of weeks ago when I had a 10% friends and family voucher so I got it for £117 and must say it is a cracking buy.

As the OP said, it does take about 7 secs to power up but thats nothing really, some VHS recorders take that long to pick up the tape when they record so not a big gripe.

Apart from that though, it looks great, records to everything (i have tried anyway) and is a snip at £130.

We got DVR-8400X by yamada from special reserve in June. Excellent but then developed fault. After 1 hr of playing dvd's it would get interference on top half of screen. Tried loads of different dvd's with same problem. Special reserve picked up old one and replaced with new one which we got today, fingers crossed that it will work ok.

  • Walshy, the DVD recorder on the TV and video direct website is the model below which only writes to DVD+R disks - so be careful of that - very dodgy link IMO
