If you are planting shop bought spuds, don't do this near an allotement as apparently they wouldn't be too happy as shop bought spuds have pesticides etc to protect them where as own grown doesn't so isn't resisitant......

However, now that you have them - next year they will grow again, as I am reliably informed you never manage to get the last one out......I have them growing in my strawberry planter.....and end up with loads - it's brilliant!!!

Is it too late to put in my main crop seed potatoes? I have had them for months, but just never had the time to get them in or the weather has been bad. These are to go in the front garden by a fence where they won't get much sun, but I don't have any where else for them to go.

I planted my earlies in containers in March and they are all up, but would still like to have some main crop in. It's my first year, can you tell?! SG

I hope not as I have not finished weeding and digging over my plot.

Mind you I have loads coming up from last year :rotfl:

    Hi sunset gold,

I found some seed potatoes that I had left to chit and forgotten to plant out. I've planted them out today and they should be fine because I was still planting them (in growbags) at the beginning of June last year and got a good crop in September.

Thanks everyone, am not working on Friday so will dig over my patch and plant them then. Haven't done potatoes before, so with "earthing up", how deep should I make the trench to plant them in? Or is it just a matter of however deep you can go? With the ones in buckets that I have already planted, the plants are twice the size of the buckets already and I only planted two potatoes per bucket in compost just a third depth of the bucket. Haven't had time to top up the compost so I guess it's a bit late now anyway? SG
