Not harsh at all and don't succumb to the guilt trip!

At 14 he should be doing his lunch anyway - us women run after men too much and then wonder why they can't do anything on their own.

He needs to learn the value of things and as for making you a cuppa - its teaching him to are about folk and be considerate.

    Get in there, teach him!:T

Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply and WOW what a variety of opinions.

I think there have been quite a few good points made that I will take on board.

I'm 17 and by the way you describe your child, I think he could be doing a little more for you. Different people are brought up in different ways, so one persons comments aren't going to always be the same as others, but at 14 your son should be taking on a little more responsibility.

Making his lunch, I guess I can understand. My mum made/makes mine sometimes, however if she's busy doing the ironing or something, I'll make it myself. I also always have/do offer her a cup of tea/coffee when I'm making my self a drink and she occasionally asks me to make her one, as do I ask her.

As for breaking the chair, we've all done it. I still do things that I shouldn't really do like put my feet on the coffee table (don't ask). Yes he did wrong but it happens and as long as he apologizes, I'd let it go.
