Was considering an extra bin incase there is extra bag or two that won't fit into the bin on the week of collection..
Would rather have it in another bin with a lid than sitting out. We have a real problem with stray cats ripping bags open looking for scraps. Also my house backs onto a field and we have the added problem of rats.
The standard bin my council give is 240L, but they say that they can give you a 360L bin in special circumstances. If you have a large family maybe you should phone the council and ask for a larger bin and explain why.

Do you have a literacy problem? There is no need to start each word with a capital letter it makes what you write hard to read.
Where is the love?
You will be surprised how much stuff goes in your kerbie boxes. Additionally, use your brown bin and reduce the amount of packaging in the supermarket. Finally, flatten all products that go in your black bin and you will end up with a good job done!:T
Good luck!0 -

A point about getting an extra black bin, one of the neighbours got themselves an extra black bin (family of five) and ....you wont believe this but I saw it with my own eyes lol....the binmen were merrily emptying the bins when suddenly there was a discussion and all the bins were counted. They figured 4 houses in the row, 5 bins out. So One of the bins was left full!!!!!!
Newtownabbey Borough Council have a strict , "1 bin , lid closed , no extra bags" policy . So yes I do believe it .0 -

I've took the plunge and bought a second bin. As I said previously i'd rather have any excess rubbish in a proper lidded bin than sitting out to attract rats etc.
In the last 3 months or so i've been preparing myself for the fortnightly collections by being strict with my recycling/ reducing packaging and waste.
We've went from a jam packed bin and 3 or 4 extra bin bags full of rubbish per week down to a 3/4 full bin per week.
I'm pleased with this but still know i'll struggle with getting it down to 1/2 a bin full per week. How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
Sorry if my typing skills annoyed anyone lol - i can assure you i didn't put a capital letter at the start of each word - The only thing i can think of is that the post was done in uppercase and it is something the forum changes itself. I hope I didn't cause you too much hassle having to work it out lol.Comp Wins 2011 : Cant wait to start listing everything:j:j:j0

We're going fortnightly from 21st April as well, so it will be interesting to see how the neighbours cope LOL
I'm not too bad as our bin seems to be 1/4 to 1/2 full each week and I'm sure we can work on it to reduce that.0 -
I really don't know how people cope with fortnightly bin collections.
We've had them for just over a month, and... God, it's horrendous. We're four students in a back terrace, and somehow we produce so much waste. I imagine it's because we're four individuals, not a family, so we eat different meals, use different packaging etc. Doesn't help that our bin men are a bit cak, and don't empty the bins if they don't feel like it.
Our council (Kirklees) has never managed to provide an extra bin, or one of those boxes to put glass in, which we were supposed to receive. I've lost count of how many times I've called to ask!
The bin is usually full in a couple of days, and then we just have bin liners around the house. At the moment, I know there is at least one bin liner of general (not food) rubbish in each of our bedrooms, but there's no room in the bin for it!
We recycle everything we can, but again have to be careful what goes in the green bin. The binmen won't take certain things, like shredded paper (why?). I really don't know what we can do!
Rant over...Everyday I am asked to be a magician, in a world where magic does not exist.0
