Fortnightly Waste collection in Newtownabbey

Since I moved back to Scotland fortnightly bin collections have been all I have known.
Never had a problem with them, only issue is having my monthly garden waste collection all through the winter period when there is no gardening to be done.Mortgage Free Wannabe 2009 Challenge

Well don't use them then.

Invest in some real nappies. Many councils give you a grant to get you started. Once you get in the habit just think how much better they are for the environment. :j :j :j Look on a nappy site - there are many alternatives and they will save you lots of money in the long run.
The disposable nappy industry is a marketing success story - don't be taken in by it!
Surely its down to personal choice what nappies you use.
Not everyone has the washing/drying facilities or indeed the the time to use real nappies. Especially if you've more than one child in nappies at the same time and/or work full time.
Before you say it, i'm not making excuses. I use them because I choose to for convenience. I'm up to my eyeballs with washing as it is without nappies aswell. How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -

I think they'll give you as many kerbies as you will use...I agree with the poster above, they're really helpful
Yes I called them through the number on this website and the next week we had extra kirbie boxes. Also we had one stolen one time  they gave us a new one the next week too.
I would suggest marking the box and the lid with your house number (like your bin) just in case!Norn Iron club member - 2650 -

Of course it is personal choice. We are lucky to have the choice. There can't be many people these days who don't have a washing machine and washing line. There are not many days when it rains all day so line drying is usually possible with a bit of organisation. 5 mins to load a washer, 5 mins to hang a dozen nappies on the line, 5 mins to collect them in again all smelling fresh and ready to reuse.
If we don't look after the environment our children may not have the choices we have.
As for where I am coming from, I had 3 children under 3 1/2, worked part time around nursery then school and always found the time because I wanted too (ad because I begruged spending money one nappies, wipes, etc when there was a far cheaper alternative;) )Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me0 -

I think you are over simplifying it my saying you only wash 12 nappies a day.
I had real nappies with my oldest 3 kids nearly 20 years ago. Admittedly things have moved on from Terry nappies. But its not just the nappies you are washing, its the liners ,the wipes (if you don't buy commercial ones) and the wraps aswell. Scraping poopy liners into the toilet is not something I miss either.
Then theres soaking them until you have enough for a full load not to mention radiators full of them if its a wet day.
As I say its personal choice. I commend you for your efforts but to be honest my son is my sixth child and at the grand old age of 41 i'd rather not be faffing about with fleece liners and napisan. I'd guess napisan is probably enviromentally unfriendly now aswell?
Also don't tell me companies aren't manipulating our worries about the enviroment into making huge profits on real nappies too. Business is business after allHow does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -

Real nappies sound like way too much hard/smelly work.
Out of interest what do you do with the poo in a real nappy? does it go in the loo, in the bin or on the roses

Oh thats the fun part.
If its a nice solid one its straight down the loo.
If it a squishy one you need to scrape as much off as possible before soaking them. I kept an old knife solely for the purpose. How does a brown cow give white milk, when it only eats green grass?0 -
I think cloth nappies are far superior that disps for new-borns. All the disp using mothers I know seem to have endless clothes changes because the nappies didn't hold the poo. Not a problem with the cloth ones I used - no squirts up the back. Also the nappy can go directly into the washing machine if you breast feed the baby. Cloth is less fun when you have a meat eating toddler.Stercus accidit0

Do you have a literacy problem? There is no need to start each word with a capital letter it makes what you write hard to read.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
