Mobile phone in coffee, please help! (merged)

How could anyone be so stupid??

I got a swanky new mobile from O2 earlier this month (thanks to Matrix and his retention tips). Had it set on vibrate this morning - the alarm went off and it vibrated itself off the table and fell into a cup of coffee.

Needless to say, it has stopped working.

I have taken the battery off and have put it near a radiator to dry out, but am not hopeful.

The sim is okay (have put it back in my old phone) so I still have communication, but am gutted to have lost the new phone.

I was offered insurance but didn't take it......

Any ideas anyone?

Thanks

Daisy

  • By coincidence my daughter has done similar by dropping her mobile 'phone, some fancy flip 'phone thing, in a glass of orange squash- don't ask how I haven't a clue! If the coffee was hot the outcome might be different, but after allowing her 'phone to dry out naturally in a warm room (4 days) it has now started working normally.
However one of my home 'phone handsets had a full cup of hot tea knocked all over it by the dog's tail and died (the 'phone :D ), again after about a weeks drying out period it is now fine. There was even tea visible in the display at the time.
So it might be worth waiting a few days to see what happens.

Unfortunatley, if the drying out does not fix it, then it's gone.

That is what insurance is for, piece of mind, i know that doesn't help, sorry.

Check your "Home Contents" insurance as you mobile could be covered.

    Hi Daisy.

perhaps you're not laughing at the mo but reading the description of what happened certainly made me giggle.

I can just imagine it happening. And what are the odds of it landing in your cup of coffee? Hilarious. - Sorry to hear of your bad fortune by the way, but you've gotta larf, ain't ya.

You're phone is obviously not on Tea Mobile!!

I wonder what the person who rang you heard.

Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.

Oh ... ok, thanks for this... I'll wait a few days before panicking, then!!

Thanks to everyone else - I do have accidental damage cover on my household insurance so it may be covered on that.

The coffee was cold, and without sugar!!! The REALLY stupid thing is, when I fished it out it was still ringing... but it was wet and slippery and I dropped it back in. That's when it stopped working. Doh!! Actually, last August, I left my mobile in the pocket of my jeans and put it through a 40 degree wash and fast spin. I wasn't able to make calls after that... put after drying out, I was still able to text. Fortunately I was due for an upgrade that time!!

Still have the same sim though!!
