There has never been any left over to freeze!;)
Thought I would post the recipe on here
Ham hock (£1.49 at Morrisons)
or gammon piece (if on offer)
or just a couple of ham stock cubes if I have nothing in.
Soak dried marrow fat peas in water overnight and rinse and drain in the morning.
Put peas, chopped onions, potatoes and carrot if you have it with the ham (or stock cubes etc) and boiling water in the slow cooker and leave on high for about four hours.
Most expensive version uses the gammon but the ham hock is nice as well once you cut off the fat.
DH has happily scoffed it with just the stock cubes for the ham flavour!
Elona
The gammon or ham hock is nice for sandwiches, omelettes, quiche etc once it has been removed from the soup and cooled in the fridge."This site is addictive!"

Hi Falady - I notice that over 20% of your monthly budget (almost £20) goes on soft drinks. I stopped buying these ages ago when my teenage son reguarly downed a bottle/carton a day. I told the kids if they want them they can buy them themselves!! We have a Britas water filter jug which goes in the fridge in the summer and plenty of milk to drink straight or for milkshakes and hot chocolates. As a result we all drink water with meals with no complaint. The kids also all like tea/coffee although I don't drink either!!0

I used to keep boxes of juice in all the time, instead of cordials and squashes. I don't miss lugging them home from the shops nor the expense! I get them occasionally now (they know if they drink it all then it doesn't magically reappear! and there has been no complaint. I keep a bottle of water in the fridge and a bottle of vimto squash or similar, they drink the water mostly! I keep ice in the upstairs freezer and they do like this in their water."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Perhaps just buy one less each time to begin with, they will maybe just drink what's there. You maybe don't need to make an announcement or discus with OH about that! LOL!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Purpleivy - that's a cunning plan! Good idea. I don't drink tea and coffee and rely on diet coke to get me through the day at work (i have depression so get very tired sometimes and the caffiene hit wakes me up a bit), but we could definitely start to cut down, rather than stop completely. Not Buying It 20150

i don't know your situation of course...... a colleague was the same with the diet coke, I know she found it difficult, as she was trying to lose weight at the same time, but she did it and felt much better for it.
