I wrote a letter to GE money stating that I wish to have a refund of my Account cover insurance. I thought it was compulsory at the time, I was 18 and to be honest just signed what the sales assistant told me to sign. on the copy of the credit agreement you can see crosses that the sales assistant has made where I have to sign, so i just signed it. I was paying it for over a year when my mum noticed it and said i was paying for something i didnt need so I rang Dorothy Perkins and asked if it was compulsory they said no and i cancelled it straight away. the letter i received back said i couldnt have a refund and i couldnt contact the financial ombudsman as they have no jurisdiction on the matter, they say i should contact the Finance and Leasing Association. It was in 2003 when it was taken out if that makes any difference.
Has anyone else been in this situation? I dont know who to contact next?
thanks0 -
it's probable they have a backlog of queries and that's their estimate on how long it will take them to respond
Thanks Tiggrae.;)
The email I sent them was only to let them know my complaint is registered with the FOS, and really did not expect Lloyds TSB to say they would be contacting me, yet over the last few months I have requested for someone to get back to me but the final decision was over 2 months ago and it was only a few days ago I emailed them to pass this on the main dept who had originally dealt with my complaint, and a reply to say the department will investigate and get back within 9 days.
I did not think they would have anything else to investigate now that they will be aware the case has been moved on to the FOS......, so unless its a procedure thing, but was not expecting any contacts from here.
Will soon see I suppose if I do hear anything within those 9 days.;)
Cheers.

 Hope someone can help The mother in law had a loan for £10k with Lloyds TSB taken out in 2006, she has a pre existing medical condition, and was told that had to take out ppi, the loan was £280 p/m, when told to cancel the ppi, LTSB then said that she could have the amounts that had paid in ppi in cash, but they had to close that loan, and she had totake out a new loan, and is now paying £285 p/m, WITHOUT ppi!!!!! Surely this cant be right, any help from anyone out there???0

Hi there.
This does not sound right, for starters she did not have to take the PPI and they obviously made her do this.
Did you mother in law mention anything about her health at the time ?
I would try to reclaim on the first loan but I its doesn't make sense if she had to take out a new loan to pay off the existing one for an higher amount -[ where they obviously included the ppi in that settling amount.
Reclaim by using Martin's template letter hun and delete what does not occur to her, but obviously they need to be aware of your in laws health at the time.
Age also comes into it, I'm not asking the age of your in law but I think a certain age over 65 they should not even think allow their customers to have this as they would not be eligible anyway in most cases.
Give us a yell if you need further info.;)
But yes I understand what your saying, and they will include the payment protection from the first loan to settle the amount for a new loan, which more than likely explains why the amount is slighly higher then the first loan which did have ppi !

Will give the letter a blast as well
On another note, I have had success from FOS re Credit Card charges, an they have found in my favour the card companies are saying that they will refund back to the cards, as there is still an oustanding balance, can they legally do this, or can I ask for the money to be sent to me direct, as it is fees and charges that have already paid out, also the accounts with them are about to go to default, and they dont class the refunds as payments to the accounts0 -

Am I right in thinking that I can claim back insurance on my credit cards - i.e. the amount they put on every month at the end of the statement when I have never asked them for this ? or is this normal practice for them to do this to cover any loss they may incur should you loose your card - I am confused - apologies if there is a posting on this - I did search through honest
thanks

I have hun and I take it you mean payment protection cover on credit cards ?;)
Right now mine is with the financial ombudsman service, and this is regarding Lloyds TSB, when I had this a few years ago, although all settled now I assumed it was all part of the agreement.
If you also feel you were mis sold hun you go for it.;)
Do you know the procedures ?
Do you need a hand hun ? If you do give us a shout.:D
