I thought we had seen the end of the OTT reactions on these boards but off we go again.

Mistakes happen. I would agree that in this case the measures Boots have in place to stop them haven't worked but such is life. It may be that someone else has collected the photos for the other person and therefore not opened them. We do this for each other at work. It is then entirely feasible that the person who has the photos cannot get back to the store straightaway. If it was me, I would have telephoned myself to have a moan anyway but that does not mean it would be passed on to the weekend staff to be alert to the problem.

Perhaps you would care to explain exactly what the police and a solicitor are going to do in these circumstances. The police are there to deal with criminal acts. THIS IS NOT ONE. I am at a loss to understand what a solicitor could do.

At the moment, there is no loss to the OP assuming they have the digital material to have the prints redone. I would expect Boots to redo the prints, free of charge and offer some vouchers as well. Once they have made redress, that is the end of it unless some psycho has the other pictures and the OP's address and telephone number and misuses them. That is a different ball game altogether but until it happens, you cannot assume it will, nor that any harm has been caused by this error. Inconvenience yes, at this point in time harm, no.

It's just not fair. How sure are you that the police and the solicitor are not in the photos.Maybe Rich1000 had a party when he last visited the local nick.

Just a thought....Boots inform the police not the customer.I feel like a Gary Glitter song coming on

Bossyboots, you are always going to get what you call OTT reactions because everyone's opinion is different. In the original post Rich said he felt "sick", now what prompted that? Worst case scenario is that some perv is passing himself of as other people to get pics of kids. Very far fetched I know, but possible. More likeley is that he is just being lied to and they can't locate the photo's. I'm sure Rich has two main objectives, - To get the photos he has paid for, and, to make sure nobody else has his pics. The first is fairly easy to sort out but the second depends on him knowing the truth. If the photo's have been lost and the 'other person with the same name' is fiction then Rich should really feel some relief. If this is the case and he had been told this in the first place I'm sure it wouldn't have made him feel "sick". My suggestion of mentioning the police and solicitors IS OTT, but - that is the point. If you are being lied to you want the truth. And if you are not then you want to convey how strongly you feel about their neglect. I appreciate mistakes will always happen. But by their nature photographs are a sensitive area and should be handled in a professional manner. The earlier posters tale of a customer being told to come back later because an employee was showing friends their pics is appalling.
I do hope Rich get the original photo's back soon and let's us know?

He is more likely to get the truth if he is calm and reasonable. As soon as you start ranting and raving and making threats of solicitors and police who the staff will know cannot do anything, the situation is lost.

At the time I first posted, I put that there was no way of knowing whether any harm was being done. If the pictures are in the wrong hands, then Rich is possibly never likely to know anyway.

If the pictures have not been returned by now, then rich needs to go to the store and say that he is concerned about someone having his pictures and had they heard anything. He also needs to say to them that if they are lost, he would rather they just say so. This is far more likely to illicit a response than anything else, particularly making empty threats which just make you look foolish.

I prefer to judge each situation on it's own merits, as I hope other people do. To say that ranting and raving loses the situation is just not true. Although you should never enter into a discussion, or start a complaint by doing this. Sometimes complaints are made and it's obvious the staff just don't give a toss. In these cases it's often just making yourself a pain in their neck so it's easier for them to sort your problem. (I'm sure anyone having dealt with Orange customer services will agree !). Some staff and companies only pull their finger out when you start ranting, especially in a retail environment with other customers hearing what you have to say. It's a last resort and sometimes it doesn't work, and yes, you do look a prat then ! (as I have on some occasions). But, on occasions, it does work, and you get results by your ranting and empty threats.
In Rich's case I suspect and hope he was just being lied to. In such a situation I think it best to talk hard and fast and maybe shock them - let them back themselves into a corner. Ask for evidence of the 'other person with the same name', where are their pics? Maybe Bossybotts doesn't agree, and if so I'm sorry but I just hate people lying and think they should be accountable. Unless someone lying to me is cleverer than me and I never find out!
Anyway, have you got your pics yet Rich????

I still think my suggestion was best....

Should have asked for an immediate set of free reprints to be done, which he could have asked them to post to him because of the inconvienience (or come to pick them up if he felt it was easy enough to do so.).

Then he should insist on seeing the other set of photos when they are returned to the store,....boots can then choose to destroy them in front of him or more sensibly give them to him.
  • Same sort of thing happened to me. Collected photos after holiday last year. Two lots wer fine and when they opened the 3rd lot to make sure they were mine they were not. They were of somenes wedding. They said they must of fallen/been put into the wrong envelope, they were probably at another store. Took my name and number and said they would call and to come in and check. Never called. I came in several times, nothing. Eventually I wrote a letter and the manager phoned me as soon as he got my letter saying as it was after a certain amount of time then they would of found them by now. He sent me a process paid disposable camera.

I would rather have had my photos. Needless to say I have not used them again. x

I received someone else's pics along with my own from pix discount, online. I emailed them to ask for a forwarding address for the other persons pics of them and their new born baby. I wanted to send them myself with a letter to let them know what had happened!

Obviously, I didnt get the address, just an email back to say they had sorted out the other person's pics already (must have sent them another set).

Result: I still have the other pics-they never asked for them to be returned. i certainly won't use themagain. they also took nearly 2 weeks to deliver on a 4 day promise. And then they tried to argue that 13 days (or however long it was, lol) wasn't really 13 days! From the stamps on the pics and postmark, they had sat in their lab for at least 3 days before being posted!

Buy a digital camera and get them developed at photobox. An outstanding company - no problems so far and all my friends & family use them !!

As for boots, Going back to 1996, I took a film in of my last day at secondart school. it got stuck in there machine and it mangled the film, so lost most of my photos. Then on another occassion, I asked for an enlargement for a friends birthday gift, and they provided me with a small re-print. DERRRRR !!

    DON`T USE THEM !!!!
