I bought five bags of the Lidl onions and popped them out in the shed, tipped out into shallow boxes. I use a lot of onions and these were a bargain even if a couple go soft by the end of storage. My own home grown onions would store for several months after all.

    Hi

As valk says.....Onions are intended to store in the skin. Check over for softies and anythign with a wide neck. Put them out to use first.

Then store the others in nets. You could place them in a sunny window :rotfl:for a couple of weeks to ensure the skins a re dry and then re-bag them if you are worried.

My summer onions last right through until the following summer.

Why waste freezer space when they can be stored perfectly well without using any fuel??

Save money on the onions and then waste money on electricity to store them. Innit.
If you haven't got it - please don't flaunt it. TIA.

I recall several survival tales when ship-wrecked mariners have managed to fish floating onions from the wreckage of their upturned boats and the vegetables have been an important supplement or relish to add to very meagre rations. Frozen those veggies would have thawed to pulp and rotted in a day or two.

Convenience of having peeled, chopped onions ready in an instant, and just one bulk-prep day? Going to have the freezer running anyway?
My kitchen probably has more/better storage in one of the freezers than anywhere else to be honest!

    Hiya,
I have quite a few oldish white onions and just bought some red onions in Lidl as they were only 37p or something!
Looking for some nice recipes for onions really or an easy way to use them up other than the usual ways.
    Thanks x

You could just chop them up, wrap them well and freeze them for using later if they need dealing with straight away.
