I think the problem was when i gave the wife a card for the account...
now im unlucky to get £20 a week..
£14k & £17k is not enough to rent privately these days on your own, how about sharing with a few friends, then the £500 a month drops to about £125.. which is easy..
It is enough to rent alone in many areas, but I agree that sharing would make more sense financially xGone ... or have I?0 -

It never was! Nobody on comparable earnings ever expected to rent a whole flat to themselves (or not in London or the SE anyway). Sharing is still the appropriate choice for young people and this is reflected in the amount of HB payable where necessary. People expect too much too soon these days.

I just need to find some friends prepared to:
a) move out
b) move to manchester

Hey Folks,
I dont usually like to put my 2 pence worth in but here goes...
Im 23, single, salary 17k (2 jobs @ 50 hrs p/wk) and I struggle like hell.
My mortgage is £550.00 per month and my car cost's a total of £150.00 per month, so if you think about the rest of my bills/living costs I barely manage.
So, basically what I am saying is if you dont know someone's circ's you shouldn't judge- and let's face it, it's got to be better than "knocking out kids" and claiming benefits.
Hotblu
I'm married with 2 kids, household income £24k less tax. My mortgage is just short of £500 a month. I run TWO cars which cost me £175 a month BEFORE I put fuel in and my wife also has a car which costs another £70 a month before fuel. Yet despite the fact I've got far more bills than you'll have, I manage extremely well and manage to put £50 a month in the the kids savings between them and max out my ISA every year.......
So yes, I can judge.0 -
"I assume you mean 2 jobs totalling 50 hrs per week, not 2 jobs @ 50 hrs making 100 hours?!!"
Sorry, that's what I meant, total of 50 hours.

"I'm married with 2 kids, household income £24k less tax."
Does this include or exclude money from benefits?
If it includes... your geting help.
If you exclude... explains how your managing.0 -
I dont want to knock anyone so thats not what I'm doing - but having children is now a choice (& I commend you) so lets also say hotblu is also doing well working 50 hours a week....0
