19yr old single male on £14K

My bil lives with us, but has to move out of our house. We have given him until the end of June, but I just wondered if he was entitled to any benefits on the wages that he is on.

Thanks in advance.

If he can't live on £280 a week, there's something wrong with him.

    Hey Folks,

I dont usually like to put my 2 pence worth in but here goes...
    Im 23, single, salary 17k (2 jobs @ 50 hrs p/wk) and I struggle like hell.
My mortgage is £550.00 per month and my car cost's a total of £150.00 per month, so if you think about the rest of my bills/living costs I barely manage.
So, basically what I am saying is if you dont know someone's circ's you shouldn't judge- and let's face it, it's got to be better than "knocking out kids" and claiming benefits.

I assume you mean 2 jobs totalling 50 hrs per week, not 2 jobs @ 50 hrs making 100 hours?!!

You have made lifestyle choices, and in making a choice to buy a property, you will have much higher outgoings than you need to at your age. You can certainly rent for less than £550 a month in the West Mids!
    Gone ... or have I?

You're obviously working hard so well done! However, you're 23 and have chosen to buy a house and run a car and you're working to achieve your aims. If you weren't prepared to work 2 jobs then you'd have to modify your life choices and not expect other people to subsidise them.

The OP's BIL is younger than you and if he wants what you have he should work for it, otherwise his income is perfectly adequate to pay for a room in a shared flat and normal living expenses. There must be some people who don't qualify for government handouts or we'll be even deeper in the brown sticky stuff than we are now!

i earn £27,600 a year (aged 27) , and we never have any cash.

I think the problem was when i gave the wife a card for the account...

now im unlucky to get £20 a week..

£14k & £17k is not enough to rent privately these days on your own, how about sharing with a few friends, then the £500 a month drops to about £125.. which is easy..
