Found it chomping on my chokeberry.
No idea, but it's very pretty!
Would hazard a guess at it being a moth rather than a butterfly though“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0 -
Bit late in the day but a couple of tales to share.
I heard some of the local magpie populace making a heck of a din when I got up the other morning. I looked out of the window to see one of our cats scooting along a fence 3 or 4 gardens away being chased by a magpie hopping along after him. Picture a fluffy white cat nervously peering over his shoulder and a magpie literally hopping mad
As for ladybirds, our holly bush/tree has a number of ladybirds and plenty of eggs on it. It's also coverd in blackfly. Those larvae are going to have a treat when they hatch0 -

I think it might be a vapourer moth

Shame its common though, thought I had a rarity there.
The caterpillar looks much prettier than the adult.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
Had it not been the weekend of the finals at Wimbledon I may not have posted this - but a certain ML says "Enjoy Wimbledon" - so...
Story: Washing dishes, looking out of the kitchen window, see a thrush, worms in beak, fly towards the house, closer and closer - strange, I thought, it came far closer than ever I would have expected.
Thought no more about it ... until
I spotted this very young thrush sitting in amongst the plants just outside the patio doors leading into the garden.
What on earth has all this to do with Wimbledon, you may well be asking.
Watch this clip, and you may just see the answer:
What was it eating?
Well, it is Wimbledon time - so strawberries, lol, what else!If many little people, in many little places, do many little things,
they can change the face of the world.

you would know a young thrush if you saw it as it is a lot lighter and nicer

Lol great footage, thanks! I went out to shoo a blackbird earlier thinking it was after my strawbs. They are so tame to me (and the cat) now they just ignore me unless I wave my arms about. Watched her for a while and realised she was actually just using the strawb pot to pick slugs off the side of the raised bed. That'll learn me.0

The week before last I saw an adult woodpecker (the black & white with red head type) sitting on the fat balls feeding a baby. Although I often see them I've never seen more than one at the same time - it made my day
A couple of days later I saw one of them splashing around in the birdbath - something else I've never seen! The particularly good thing about this is that we've had that birdbath (got it in Sainsbury, you screw it into a wall/fence or onto a tree) for several weeks and never saw anything visit it but since the woodpecker 'christened' it, the great tits seem to be in it all the time:)0 -
Reminds me of a time at school, when a rather naive colleague decided to Google 'Babe,' because his class was writing a review of the film based on 'The Sheep Pig' for Literacy Hour!
.:rotfl:
:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I did exactly this myself - I got hot babe, swedish babe - all sorts but what I was looking for ....... well it might have been there but it was a long way down on the list if it wasEnded up looking under the film company instead
