    Sorry, I missed it.

    1.68GHz. 224MB of ram

I am off the opinion that despite paying something like £29, I'm prepared to let that go, (even though someone wrote it wouldn't do any harm having two running). It was Avira AntiViv Personal Edition Classic.

Is it worth mentioning that I have Spybot and AdAware on the system?

If you are happy with the latest version of Norton, then fine. There is a lot of Norton bashing that goes on, by people who have never even used it!

You can have as many anti-spyware/malware type programs installed as you like but only one active anti-virus and one firewall running.

To be perfectly honest, I don't think I have ever had an issue with Norton. I also have MaAfee Site Advisor running and keep an eye on everything I google and only use site that they have ticked green. In fact one site in my favourites which was an American giveaway a site each day free, I noticed was red, so I'v e deleted it. Yes, I appreciate there are lots of "bashing" of things by some people and maybe justified. I have TT as my provider, and have never (dare I say it) had any issue with them or their service. So, I suppose it best if I leave well alone and keep Norton.

Of course I accept there may be people who will now give reasons why I should change, but for the moment I'll wait and see. Thanks to you and all those who readily responded.

I use NIS 2008 and it works fine on my machine, a side point though, your PC would benefit from some more RAM, with the price of RAM being so low these days it would be worth popping at least another 512Mb.
PS NIS disables the Windows security centre, I think there is an option somewhere to renable it if you wish.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

I agree that you should have some more RAM installed. 512MB should be sufficient, dependent on your usage.

Can you run HiJack This, produce a Log and post it here.

We'd like to see what is currently running on your system, in order to diagnose any potential problems.

    Installer version here

You need to install HJT on your PC and then run it. Copy and paste the output file into your post in this thread. See post 1 - 4 of Malware removal Sticky for more info on this.

It is exactly what we wanted, but espresso wants you to download and install from the second link in my post and then to produce the log from there.
Not sure why, but I'm sure he'll tell us. ;)

    Not sure about crypserv.exe

May be related to your installation of Alcohol 120.

There are a couple of entries that look strange to me.

If you don't know what they relate to...

Reboot in to Safe Mode(hit F8 key whilst restarting the computer until menu shows up) and produce another log.

Remove those two entries at that point(place a tick next to them and select 'Fix')

I've got to go to bed, as I have a flight in the morning.

Hopefully someone else can take over.
