Pm's !!!!

Its not very often that i write pm's to anyone but i have noticed it takes people days to reply as they never notice they have a new pm, if you want to ask someone a private question about a post they put in a thread, i always try to di it immediatly so they don't forget what they wrote about and it drives me crazy because you can see they are online but the pm box is so tiny its easy to miss.
FAO Board guides/martin: is it not possible to have a popup box come up if you log in or refresh the page and a new pm has arrived?
or has this been discussed before as i couldn't find any posts about it

We do have a pop up system. Just go into your control panel (User cp) on the bar above and then to edit options. Scroll down and the option is there to enable pop ups.
If you are browsing the forums when you receive a new private message, the system can pop-up a notification box informing you of the new message.
Show New Private Message Notification Pop-Up.
Just tick the box.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Ok for people who don't have pop up blockers, but also it would be more sensible to default it 'on' instead of default 'off'
Also it should be a bigger feature, it really is tiny and easy to miss. This might not be possible because Martin is maybe not in control of the way the board looks.0 -
ooops now i feel silly lol, but if i didn't know then maybe others will now know how to do it, i think i'm looking in the wrong place though because in user cp in messages i only have 3 optins list messages, send new message and edit foldersRunning total for swagbucks - £270 since Jan

I'd love it if the writing at the top right telling you that you had a message was more noticeable
Having pop-ups on by default wouldn't make much difference with everyone having pop-up blockers these days. If your blocker tells you a popups been stopped, most people would just assume it was an advert and ignore it.
Remember to turn your pop-up blocker off for mse

I won't be turning my pop-up blocker off. I have e-mail notification switched on so I get an e-mail when there is a new PM. I am more likely to notice this than the new message box on the forum. Not even wrong0

If it is defualt 'on' then it would pop up for those who don't have pop up blockers, this can only be a good thing. The user can turn it off if they don't like it.
People with blockers wouldn't see it whether or not it was default on or off, so they wouldn't see any difference.
If it is defualt off then people (like me) who don't use pop up blockers, will take a very long time to get to learn of it's existance.
Lets see now I first registered Apr 2005, I got a PM within the first week, but it took me about 4 weeks to notice it was there. Since then I have always been late to see PM's but now I do look once a week or so. And it has taken me until now to learn that there is a pop up message feature. Had it been default ON I would have recieved my first PM in my first week here.0 -
I have a pop up blocker (Google) but still get the pop up to tell me that I have a PM. The only thing I have to do is hold down the ctrl button when I click 'open in new window' or it doesn't work.
I don't get any other pop ups...everJust run, run and keep on running!0
