Im pregnant! baby is going to be green and mse!

Hi all

Found out that I am pregnant this morning. Me and hubby are over the moon as we have been trying for a long long time!!

I am going to buy everything i can second hand (apart from mattress)

is there a comprehensive list of the essential things i will need for a baby? Im a member of freecycle and im already looking out for things.

We'll use cloth nappies and make our own baby food and will breast feed.

What equipment will I need and what is a waste of money?

Congratulations! Most people seem to think that you don't actually need that much. Freecycling is good, there are also charity shops/ jumble sales, and you will probably be given loads of stuff by friends and family. I understand that if you need a car-seat, that should be new though.

    Congratulations!!

I've had two kids and to be honest there is not a huge amount of stuff that you have to have. With my daughter as she was unexpected and we did not have to brass pennies to rub together and made do with the bear minimum. With my son four years later we were better off financially and therefore bought more stuff and to be honest it was a waste of money as he did not know the difference. I suggest a decent cot/moses basket . Rather spend the money on the things that will last them the longest such as a buggy, and cot then on silly little things which they don't need. NCT nearly new sales are fantastic

I second the NCT sales in particular. They've got some fantastic things at those at really minimal prices - just get there early! We got to our local one half an hour before the start, and there were still 20 or so people queuing before us!

freecycle and ebay are both fab- i wish i had known about freecycle when i was pregnant with ds-but i did buy a lot of stuff from ebay saving quite a bit

primark, matalan and asda are good for clothes- when you get the voucher for your bounty pack if you redeem it at asda you get a fiver george voucher
boots is good for bogofs on wipes, cream etc (if you use these)

have you any family or friends that you could borrow items from?

cant think of anything else right now

    oh and congrats! :-)

    Yay! Huge congratulations:grouphug:
:D Make a list of important things to do today. At the top, put 'eat chocolate'. Now, you'll get at least one thing done today. :D
  • Congratulations! :)

DO NOT buy an expensive travel system. I was convinced I wanted one and the pram/pushchair and car seat came to £300. I sold the lot when my son was four months for £150. I wish I'd bought a cheaper but equally decent car seat, and a nice pram/pushchair. Look on Ebay, people sell them in really good condition (like I did...)

I got most of my sons newborn and 0-3 sized clothes from an NCT sale but you have to be ruthless! Sharpen your elbows and look angry :D

If you co-sleep you won't need a cot - co-sleeping has made breastfeeding so much easier for me, it's the only way I get some sleep.

    congratulations!!!

i posted a similar post a while back as we are going to try for bubba later in yr, got some fab advice on here too!

i have been looking around at bits i would like ie pram, cots etc, (knowledge is power and i always over prepare!! :o ) and the pram i want cost £250 approx (it is a travel system but that is what i want to use) but on ebay the exact systems are around £40 2nd hand, there is all sorts on there!

i have applied to freecycle but have not had the email confirming that i am a member (i dont know too much about it, but when i tried to join was told that i had to ask the local group in our area for permission??) so still holding out for that also..

anyway i hope you have a lovely pregnancy and best of luck!! :D

Congratulations! If you want to go super green/oldstyle etc then google "attachment parenting" and "Dr William Sears" you will soon find you don't need a lot of the equipment that many new mums are drawn into!
