Warnings and things to watch for

I accept PayPal, and I also request buyers add 4% to the auction, which is stated at least three times in the auction, at checkout and in winning notification emails from eBay. More than half the buyers pay me without the 4% and in most cases I request the extra to complete the sale, pointing out this detail is listed in the auction.
Just a word of warning that surcharging for paypal is now against paypal rules and that if someone reports you to e-bay your account could be suspended.
I never pay a surcharge for paypal (and i didnt charge one either when i sell) i feel if you accept that payment method you should swallow the charges yourself. It is your choice at the end of the day to accept paypal.0 -

I am aware of this, however, I don't think eBay would suspend a Powerseller's account, as they would lose a lot of money every month. It is your choice at the end of the day to accept paypal.
Actually, the choice to pay PayPal is with the buyer, pay PayPal, with 4% charge or to pay NoChex with no charge. There is no disadvantageous reason for not choosing NoChex over PayPal as both accept credit cards and debit cards. This way they are made aware of the cost of PayPal and it promotes NoChex.0 -

Another phone scam I've seen is selling a picture of the phone, of course its listed as if it were the phone itself you are bidding on.
You get all the blurb about it - masses of info - then somewhere near the bottom you get...please note you are bidding on a picture of the phone....some people have fallen for it.
And also someone selling an empty 'X-Box' box.
Always read every word in the desription!!!!!If you can't see the bright side of life....polish the dull side.0 -
I buy jewellery on Ebay, usually for Christmas. I've always stuck to semi-precious stones as they are less likely to be fake. Opals and amber used to be nearly impossible to fake.
This year I have noticed a new (to me) phenomenon- lab created stones in jade, opal, emerald, sapphire and even amber. Some of the sellers are up-front about this and it is fairly clear what you are getting. But some have buried the detail in the fine print and it's possible others are trying to pass them as genuine.
My favourite misleading jewellery heading- still there-
VICTORIAN ANTIQUE VINTAGE TOPAZ AMBER GEMSTONE BRACELET
In the detail it does say 'Brand New'. but it still gets listed in Vintage section.

Could we just get real about e-bay please.
It isn't some universal life enhancing charity...it's a BUSINESS that takes very high fees and collecting those fees is it's ONLY interest. It's increasingly populated by scam merchants , those selling knock off /conterfeit/seconds or those pathetic creatures who rush around boot sales collecting tat and then listing it on e-bay (tip avoid anything listed sunday night!)
Report anything you like to E-bay...all you will get is an automated response. They take no interest in any scam, fraud or accept any responsibility for anything listed...or indeed anything! They will give your personal data away at the press of (someone else's button). And if you have filed your CC details then you might as well just publish them openly here...because that's about how secure they are.
the simple rule is if you use it, you will get conned/cheated at some stage however careful you are...even if is just inflated postage charges
and frankly, anyone who uses Paypal...well!!!
My tips for getting back at rogue traders...
...get the seller's real address and if they have sold more than 50 items in a year advise their local Inland Revenue...they treat that as 'trading'
... if you get conned take the rouble to tell other buyers using that seller.....directly (not just through feedback ...that can be 'managed')
ps the latest scam is a program that places a winning bid in the last second to the next round numberSarah x0 -

I bought a video boxset for £13 and six weeks later had still received nothing. After emailing and getting no joy from the seller (he said he had mailed over 40 items that week and couldn't remember posting mine), including a refusal to refund, I left him a negative comment. Fair enough, I thought! But he replied to my negative comment and lied saying that I hadn't emailed him at all!
So I now have this untruthful negative feedback and it makes my feedback score very low (because its done by percentage) because I don't sell much stuff. After all, if you sell two items and get negative feedback for one then it means you have 50 per cent bad feedback! Ive tried all avenues, including sending a form to Ebay about this person but nothing has come of it. His name is retro_palace and his feedback score is very good because he sells so much stuff.0
