    crust was yummy and soft

Was this because you covered with a tea towel when you took it out or because you brushed with milk:D

P.S - what do all you other lovely breadmakers brush on yours?

Bread pudding - OMG I love this. Soak your stale/manky bread in water until it's soft. Squeeze it out into a bowl, add 1 egg for every 8oz or so and enough milk to make it sticky but not sopping wet, it should drop off your spoon - mix in dried fruit to taste, a teaspoon or two of mixed spice depending on the amount you are making and stir in a couple of ozs of sugar for every 8 oz of bread.....Pour into a greased baking dish and sprinkle the top with demerara sugar packets pinched from cafes for precisely this reason.... bake in a medium oven 170ish for an hour or so - a knife should come out clean. Leave it to cool and feast!!!!

Now I love the sound of this, looks easy to make and not full of fat. Is there no fat at all that goes into it?

Nothing. I used to wrap it in a teatowel to keep the crust soft, but I've forgotten the last few times and the crust is still soft.

neither,,i didnt brush it with egg after all as i thought there no point if i dont have any seeds to sprinkle,,so i dusted with flower,,i forgot to cover it and the kids were so excited when they saw it that they ate most of it within about 10 mins of coming out of the oven:)

  • Does anyone have a recipe for a pullman tin please? I tried a one and half pound recipe but the loaf was a bit small and didn't square off so I divided the recipe by three and multiplied it by four, but it has come out very heavy. This may be because I only left it to cook for 40 mins on 200 degrees? Not sure? The tin is 410mm L x 125mm W x 115mm D.

I'm sure you could, I've always felt 4 tsp was a lot of yeast. Reduce it by a third to start with and see how it goes.
Re the roll recipe: I've just tried it with 3 tsp of yeast and it was absolutely fine.

I am still investigating pot baking of bread as a fan gets rid of moisture from the oven and results aren`t as good as they could be. My pot is thick aluminium and I believe I can do better so have been investigating cast iron dutch ovens but they are very very heavy

I would love a la cloche but you just can`t buy them in the uk and lo and behold I have found a pretty simple way using a pyrex bowl. You do the last proving of a ball shape on a tin, slash and cover the dough with the bowl. Then leave the bowl on and bake 30 mins at 200 then take the tray out and remove the bowl. Pop back in for another 15 minutes.

It sounds feasible so we`ll see next time I bake. You need to use a smallish bowl otherwise the dough just spreads out and I have seen pictures of this method with yeast and sourdough breads
  • i have 2 more loaves in the oven,,forgot nothing today,,well only the instructions as to how to make a chicken and broccoli bake,,but the ladies sorted me out:jthat looks yum too wanted to make potato gratin also but i have run out of dishes:p so need to buy some more.all this money saving and home baking is costing me a fortune:D
