    Hi,
If your hubby loves chillis as much as mine you could try 'pickling' them. All I do is put them in some normal malt vinegar but my Mum used to put them in lime juice. They can then be used on whatever he likes. I can't tell you how long they will last as they are never around for that long in my pantry! HTH x

I would vouch for the sweet chilli jam receipe on the good food website. Very easy to make, have made 2 lots in the last week as red peppers, you need 8 of them, seem to be so cheap at the moment. Great for gift too!

Once they go red you can dry them. I'm still using last years.I just threaded a piece of thick cotton through them and hung them up in the airing cupboard.
Am not sure what I am going to do this year as DH has a dozen plants -several varieties.

    Hi
Could you tell me how your husband grows them, is it outdoors? I tried to grow some this year but they never got over a few inches high!:o:(

  • Unless you have a greenhouse, you need to start them off indoors until they can cope with being outside overnight.

I normally start mine off in April in a greenhouse (plastic-type one) and then move them out into the garden in a pot when they're well established and can cope at night without dying off.

We grow them indoors as we live on the edge of the Peak District and I don't think it's warm enough for them outside. Both spare bedroom window sills are full of chilli plants and he's just moved some downstairs in front of the patio doors in the dining room as they are now too tall for the window sills.

I suppose it's my fault as I bought him the packet of mixed chilli seeds.
