Ok, these sound like debt collectors to me then and not bailiffs, they are not the same. They have about as much right as a chocolate fireguard. They have no right what so ever to enter your home. As i said earlier post up what you owe and to who. usually we can spot the guys that will send the heavy boys in as it were. We will know what we are dealing with then,Night Owl Member No 1 :rotfl: :rotfl:

What will a debt collector do? Ok so have got half way through the pile of unopened letters, the top are the most recent. Hope your ready for this because I am shocked at how bad it is, I got more then one letter from debt collection agency threatening ccjs unless full payment of the balances are made.

Don't worry about the reasons for your debt, we all have different ones and what is important on here is sorting them out and sorting out the reasons for them.
My debts WERE from being a compulsive spender, lots of people have more worthwhile reasons than me but I haven't once been judged harshly on here (and I am quite open about my reason for having lots of debt)
Try not to fous on the overall amount of the debt or it can seem like a huge brick wall that you are facing, instead just focus on working out a way that you can start to pay them back. Pull together an SOA (link) as far as you can, you will need this to sort out the debt anyway. (You will need to know the current balances and interest rates)
Get in touch with one of the debt advice charities from my earlier post (here is link again)and they will help you out of this. If you want to get cracking tonight then you can go to the CCCS website and complete their online Debt Remedy tool and you will get an idea of what options you have open to you.
If you feel you are able then come back here and post up your SOA (you can copy this from the SOA website link above) and the people on the forum will help you to make your money go further.

Welcome:hello: :hello: , thats not as bad as it might seem. Have seen far far worse posted here you are far from being a lost cause.
Dont give up on opening those letters and getting them sorted. IF there are any county court summons, they are first to tackle, if yoy have none then the knuckle draggers that called are 'Field collectors' from a DCA, they have less rights than the paper boy. Should they knock then ask then to leave, do not answer their questions. Should they not leave then call the police.
Secondly look at when you last made payment of each of these debts, check the APR and post it here please.
Thirdly put an SOA together, there is a sticky at the top of the board that explains
List all your income and expenditure and again post it here, you will be surprised at how enterprising folks are here at finding savings that can be redirected towards your debts, often without major changes to your lifestyle. You have made the first steps to confront these issues, well done:T
There is no point in rushing now, but all the same dont stop either.
Once you have the whole picture in front of you, and the amount of money that you can put aside to service it, then you can put a plan of action together, that is robust and affordable.
It might be wise to talk to one of the debt charities next week when you have the full picture.
Believe me after todays initial shock, you will sleep easier in the comming weeks and months knowing that you are "proud to be dealing with your debts"[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j

Have written up a soa. Problem I got with it though, is that these are my personal debts and I want to pay for them myself but its asking for the boyfs income. We are getting wed in 2 wks and have only moved in together properly this wk after living separately to try and keep our finanaces separate. Sounds crazy I know. But i would never want him to pay for my mistakes.Mum to 3yr old & 4mth old boysWife to redundant construction workerI am now the Breadwinner0

I admire your principles, but will just say that MoneySaving is about doing things at the least cost, and often the Bank of Man and Dad or OH charges the least interest;) if any. You could always ask OH to bear the biggest half of expenses while you deal with the past, then repay him later[strike]Debt @ LBM 04/07 £14,804[/strike]01/08 [strike]£10,472[/strike]now debt free:j
