Oh no, balliffs looking for me....help!!

Ok so boyf returned home today at 8.30pm to find 2 oldish guys parked outside our block. They asked him where he lived, he told them in our block they asked what number so he told a small white lie and said the our neighbours number and asked who they were looking for.. They said me. Oh dear. He's convinced they are baliffs. Now i got to be honest I am seriously struggling to pay off personal debts so have buried my head in the sand BIG TIME. I havent been answering the phone in case its creditors and after tonight am too frightened to answer the door in case its them. Ok so I guess they are going call again possibly early in the morning so I am going sit down and go through everything and sort the finances once and for all (Type up letters to the creditors informing them of the fact I am no longer able to make full payments and then arrangement to pay). In the mean time though, what is the procedure with balliffs? Obivously I dont want them to take any of our stuff, I dont want any trouble as we got a small toddler and a baby on the way but I havent got any cash to give them either. Would they accept arrangements to pay? Please, please help!! Many thanks xx

To start with do not Evereverevereverever let them into your house. once you have done so they can come back and force entry. SPeak to them only through an upstais window or the letterbox. A foot in the door is not peaceful entry. Keep any windows and doors to the premises locked while you are out.
You need to find out why they may be calling, I know it is tough (been there to) but a big deep breath, a big gulp, and open that mountain of post that you have been avoiding, then run back here, shout scream rant and rave and then tell us what the picture is.
Once you have let them in hon they can return at ANY time and take you're property. Do not acknowledge any debt to them at all.
This is all i can think of for now, pop us up a full statement of affairs when you have it and lets see if we can help you find the wood amongst the trees. big hugs to you P xxx

Hi hun amd welcome. you are in the right place. Have you had any letters from the court about CCJs or anything like that. Dont open your doors. You do not need to let them in. Speak to them through an open window. Have you any idea what this maybe for. Please dont fret hun. We will help you in any way we can x x

  • Doesn't sound like a reputable lot.

Have had a few run ins with bailiffs and they always leave a note saying they have called and why before lurking.

Decent bailiffs will try to help especially if you are in late stages of pregnancy and have very small children.

Not owing any council tax, have got all the receipts for last years payments and make a point of paying it by card to have it on my bank statements. Have started on that mountain of unopened post, not found any court notices up to now. will post with the final verdict in a bit. Many, many thanks xx

  • From the sound of it you will need professional debt advice. You can get debt advice from any of the organisations here: Link

Depending on what stage all this has got to you might need the help of other specialists but don't worry about that for now. Just try to get together a picture of your current situation so that you know what you are dealing with.

There IS a solition and there IS a way out if it (there is always a solution, it might not be easy but it is there and once you start on the road to it and get the control back over this you will start to feel a lot better), just take a deep breath and pull out all that post that you have been ignoring so that you can find out what you have to tackle.

Good luck and best wishes for you tackling this.
