Hiya,
I literally never watch telly, but I have a new housemate/lodger who does, so I'm thinking of getting a Freeview box for him.
Three questions I guess.
1. Does it work using my normal TV aerial?
2. What should I look out for in a Freeview box? Does it need two receivers or something, if he wants to watch one Freeview channel but record another?
3. How much should I pay!?
I really am a philistine on this stuff, so "I don't know what I don't know".
Cheers.

Yes, you just use your normal aerial.

According to the Freeview website, I can't get it at my postcode.
Do I have any other options?
My TV and VCR are both 15 years old, and last time I switched them on they worked perfectly well. I'm not looking to upgrade them.
Do I have any other options open to me, without subscribing to Sky? I'm not in a cable area - I live in a village.

You can get this service from Sky which doesn't involve a monthly outgoing. However, there is an inital cost of £150.
<edit>Other than that you can start a new hobby of picking up free satellite channels using a Free to Air/view satelite box. If you start out small, you can pick up a cheap dish and receiver and have a play. There's lots of info online about setting systems up and find channels to watch.0
