Thanks for some great ideas. Really like the gallettes as I can do savoury and sweet and loved the idea of the mini desserts in a shot glass. Going to make an easy choc mousse to pop in those.!! I made Delias sausage roll receipe years ago and they were really nice so I am going to do some of those too.
I had a look in M&S and sains before I put the post on here and it would of cost a fortune to cater for everyone using the party food packs. The teenagers have huge appetites and would eat 4 packets each !!
Last year I did by some iceland party packs to take into work but they seemed to taste of salt and fat mostly. Uggh.
Also managed to pick up some Taste the difference cava reduced from £9.99 a bottle to £4.99 so I am going to mix this with some vodka and cranberry juice to make a Christmas punch.
Also I have a bottle of Brandy that we have never used (about 4 years old) and I was going to mix that with Babycham - would it be ok then to top it up with lemonade or ginger beer.?
My canape and drinks party is sounding quite posh now. lol.
Thanks again - any more ideas ?

Definitely top it up! (I think that lemonade, 7up or Sprite would be best as not everyone is a fan of ginger ale)

    Just found this on Wikki:
    "
Babycham was commonly used as a mixer for brandy. The resultant "Brandy and Babycham" (colloquially called a "Legover") was particularly en vogue in Blackpool during the 1980s.
Similarly, in central Scotland, Babycham has in recent years been used as a mixer for the fortified wine Buckfast. This potent blend is known as "Buckcham", "Babyfast" or "!!!!fast"."

Carva and cranberry sounds lush, by the way!

I can remember drinking brandy and babysham back in the early 80's and it was lush. I thought topping it up with lemonade will make it go a bit further. I will have to sample a lot of it as I mix it just to make sure that the mix is just right !!
    Thanks seakay

Lemonade might make the Brandy and babysham a bit too sweet, try fizzy water or soda water.
I made a non alchoholic punch/cocktail for the drivers using apple juice and ginger ale
  • Another retro food - devilled eggs. Still popular in US and whenever I make them they go down really well. - Hard boiled eggs cut in half lengthways, scoop out yolk and mash with some mayo, chilli sauce or mustard (which ever devil you fancy), salt and peper and stuff back in eggs! Cheap and cheerful - a dozen eggs gives you 24 devilled eggs.

Mini pizza bits - giant pizza cut in bits - good hot or cold - espec if costco customer - can get giant one - so big have to cut in half to fit in oven - for 6ish pounds.

Good evening all you lovely Old Stylers,

Calling on your help once again! DM has a party on Saturday for a rather big birthday and I have offered to provide some canapes. Only problem being that she has a theme, either seafood (her fave) or spicy (DFs fave).

This rules out my usual mini quiches etc and DM is already doing salmon bellinis. Please help! Any suggestions welcome

    Thank you!

mini vol u vents filled with prawn and marie rose sauce?

or a modern version of tiny filo pastry tartlets cooked then filled with the above?

or ---- my personal fave - deep fried calimari in batter.

    Hi emilyka,

Here are a few that I can think of:

smoked salmon, spread with cream cheese and chives, roll up sausage style and slice into small rounds.
wheaten bread or crostini topped with smoked salmon, chives and slices of lemon for squeezing.
prawns with tails on and sweet chilli dip
vol-au-vents filled with prawns or other seafood in a creamy sauce
bruchetta topped with tomatoes, onions and chilli
    spicy chicken wings
    chicken satay on skewers
nachos (tortilla chips spread on a plate, covered with salsa and some chilli flakes, then topped with grated cheese and popped under the grill at the last minute)
homemade pizza slices or mini pizzas (seafood and/or spicy)

    Pink
