I make mini blinis, (posh pancakes) and top with smoked salmon, cream cheese and whatever else is handy. can be sweet or savory...............you can make little mini puddings in shot glasses, spoon chocolate mouse and sprinkle some white chocolate, top with cherry. add liquor for adult ones

Could you use bits of tortilla as the bases for the blinis...can't face faffing about with spoonfulls of blini batter

mini puddings in shot glasses...I did some of these for halloween, they were popular...I made a very rich chocolate mousse (Nigella's recipe) so you only need small servings

how about making some 'sweets' eg mini coconut balls, dipped in chocolate marshmallows, no cook fudge, small rice krispie/toffee cakes, small shortbread stars, small twinks hobnobs in different flavours, mini mince pies topped with frangipani instead of pastry top, truffles
  • Hi, there was a really great idea i found in a mag not long ago, byt antony worell tompson i think. Basically you roll out sliced bread (brown, white) with a rolling pin, cut circles from the bread with a cutter but if like me dont have them, i used a tall glass instead. push the bread circles in a mini muffin of yorkshire tin (depends on what size you you want them), drizzle with a little oil and bake in a low oven till brown. Then you can fill your own canapes with anything you like, leftovers in fridge etc.
Some ideas could be, tuna and mayo, prawn mayo, chicken.... the list goes on.
Sooooo cheap, easy ad very tasty.
Another great idea is putting all your left over cheeses in a bowl, add a tsp soft butter, a drop of sherry and dijon mustard. blend until smooth, serve with crudetes.
Hope this has given u an idea or 2.

Buy a packet of puff pastry, roll it out, cut it into 2 equal pieces, spread one half with marmite (mix it with a little marg first if it's not going on easily) sprinkle with grated cheddar cheese, put the other half of the pastry on top, press dwn lightly and cut into squares, fingers or other shapes before baking at your usual pastry temperature ( gas 5 for 20 minutes or so for me).
This also works well with shortcrust pastry.

    Bacon-wrapped dates.

Buy dates without stones, wrap in bacon, fasten with cocktail stick, bake in medium-hot oven for 15 -20 mins.

You can stuff the date with a nut or a bit of cheese, if you have time.

This is YUM and there are endless variations - you can add chopped nuts, fresh herbs, paprika etc.

Speaking of tortillas, a lot of parties I've been to at home (in the US) seem to use some variation of tortilla + cream cheese + topping (salmon pieces, turkey slices, pesto, etc) rolled up and cut into slices. You could have a variety of things like flavored tortillas, roasted peppers, jam, other kinds of cheese, vegetables, or perhaps some pate?

You can also stuff dates with soft blue cheese, eg Dolcelatte (mash it with a little butter or cream cheese or cottage cheese if you want to stretch it) - with this type there is no cooking.

Should work if you don't put lots of toppings on them. How about cheap cheese crackers and then top with stuff?

I've made some funny ones, blini base then a spoon of cream cheese and half a black olive so it looks like an eye. Or cream cheese then some salsa shaped like lips. Then again, I am easily amused :D
