I am catering for my mum-in-law's surprise 60th birthday. There will be 15 guests and I would love to do something a little different than sandwiches, sausage rolls etc.
It needs to be fairly quick and simple to make, am happy to make beforehand and then cook on the day. Mainly savoury snacks needed as I will be doing a chocolate fountain.
I would love to get some ideas? Please help!

Here's an old one from the '70s - still goes down very well and is very simple. Take dried dates, slit open to remove stone and fill with a soft creamy cheese.
Another standard one is chicken drumsticks, season with chicken seasoning, bake in oven on day or morning before and serve cold."Remember that many of the things you have now you could once only dream of" - Epicurus0 -
I like to do toast with cream cheese and smoked salmon.
Not nearly as decadent as it sounds. I find the tiniest sliver of the salmon still imparts the very rich salmony flavour (you can buy salmon "bits" from most supermarkets).
Decrust and cut the toast into whatever shapes you like. I like circles. There is a small degree of toast wastage (sorry MS board) but the effect is great.
I like to add the very tiniest piece of white onion too for just a hint of crunch. My eyes! The goggles do nothing!0 -
Hi,if you roll out some shortcrust pastry, cut out small rounds, bake in oven, cool and you can store these in an airtight tin ahead of time.
Prepare filling night before, mix tinned salmon with some grated red onion,a little mayo and a little curry powder and finely chopped parsley,on day put into prepared cases and serveThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. Celery cut into one inch lengths filled with cream cheese
onion sauce & chicken or turkey to fill vol au vents or cream cheese (the one with prawn added) with a single prawn on top or for a veggie version mushroom rice with some finely chopped mushroom added
Veggie fingers -just cut at a slight angle in half (always popular)
May think of some more later...I THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
Hi Everyone
I just need some very easy canape/snack ideas that I can serve for adults and teenagers with christmas drinks. I am not cooking the whole hot supper this year but need a selection of hot and cold nibbles. I have been trawling through cook books all afternoon and the only think I have found that is easy and cheap is Nigellas sticky coated sausages. !!!
I thought about making a selection of tarts (brought pastry) with bits if topping on like pesto and pepperoni and mozarella as a small amount of ingredients will go a long way. Does this sound OK ? I just wanted to do something a bit different.
Any suggestions ?
Thanks

Savoury ideas:
Brie & cranberry tarts (pastry shell, chunk of brie, tsp cranberry sauce - bake till cheese and pastry are browned)
Salmon quiches (pastry shell, egg and milk mix, salmon trimmings (sainsburys basics 88p) chopped chives - bake till egg mixture has set.
Sweet ideas: Mini mince piesSquares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)0 -
Have a look online at Tesco, Asda and Iceland's ranges of party foods, you're sure to get some inspiration there.
Mini pizzas on bruschetta are always good, as are tiny toad in the holes. Vol au vents are old fashioned but always go down well here!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -

Have a look at Delia's galettes as these use flaky pasty which is lovely & light. You could make them as she suggests but then use a pastry cutter to make mini-galettes. You could make up other toppings or wander through Delia's site for some ideas - here's the Tomato & goats cheese one
You really must have sausage rolls. I know they're a bit predictable at Christmas, but there's nothing like homemade. Or these bacon & egg pies would be a great substitute and easy to make in a patty tin.
Chicken Satay
Mini Yorkie puds with roast beef could be made the day before and then assembled, on the day.
Courgette cakes
Savoury Mini Muffins
Sweet - sweet/fruit toppings using the galettes recipe.

I make mini blinis, (posh pancakes) and top with smoked salmon, cream cheese and whatever else is handy. can be sweet or savory.
If you can roll sushi, make some small rolls and cut them up into little slices.
Or make tortilla wraps and slice them up
Carrot sticks, celery sticks, cheap tortilla chips with hummus, salsa and guacamole.
stuffed potato skins but make small individual ones
you can make little mini puddings in shot glasses, spoon chocolate mouse and sprinkle some white chocolate, top with cherry. add liquor for adult ones
sausage rolls are good hot or cold.0
