Daft idea I know but have you googled his name, it may show what chatrooms/anything he may have subscribed to.

Also would you know his log in name? Try searching that, maybe the facebook, bebo, myspace sites under his real name. Fiddley but can be searched under in their internal search engine thingys.

    Maybe worth a shot.

  • so sorry to hear this, hugs to you all. How old is your brother?

he has a laptop that he is very secretive over, we tried to get into it last night but it is password protected

depending on the operating system, have you tried ignoring putting a password in and just clicking ok or cancel, sometimes it works

    hope you hear something soon

    Try the Techie Board.

They helped me bypass a password on the laptop. It does present other issues though. If he were to come home sooner rather than later, it may not help as he may think you don't trust him rather than trying to help.

Fermi - we know of one ex military colleague that he was in contact with but all we know is a first name and a town. He's taken his address book with him (which is hopeful in some respects).

Skylight - glad your OH came back, know everybody is different but dont suppose you can give any idea of the sort of places he visited whilst he was away?

Triker - have googled his name, without success but haven't a clue what his profile name would be on any chat rooms! Have looked on various networking websites but cant find him. Found a list of all his hotmail contacts that he had printed off so have emailed everybody on that list.

Shame. Although as you say, taking the address book does imply some forethought which is encouraging.

  • Hi Red,

Sorry to hear the news. You've had some good suggestions already. What about the Samaritans? I think they used to have some sort of missing people service, whereby they couldn't tell you where the person is but they could pass on messages from you if the person contacted them, & also pass on messages from them to you to let you know they were safe if they gave their consent to that. I hope he gets in contact soon. :grouphug:

  • Hi Red1708, sorry to hear the news.

Try finding his old mobile phone bills - if they are itemised you will be able to see which numbers he has been calling and may give you a clue.

We're all thinking of you and your family.
  • Although the police will contact the credit card companies etc, if you know his card number (from old statements etc) you may be able to call them and use their automated service (depending on what questions the automated system asks) to determine any recent transactions. i.e. Did he book into a hotel somewhere?

I know its a long shot, but you never know.

Is there anywhere you used to go as kids that he remembers fondly - perhaps a hotel you used to go to. You could always call them and pretend to be your brother, asking to confirm your booking details because you completely forgot the dates.
