How could it be if BT have a published telephone directory?

1.You have a choice of going into the BT directory or not.So if you decide that you want your data to go in there, then you have chosen for it to be available, and thats acceptable.
2.However the OP wants some sort of database/directory where you can enter a mobile number and it comes up with the owners personal details. This would be ok ,if the owner agreed to it .But what about if you did not want to give out your details!!!
3.Not even BT offer a service on Landlines where you give them the phone number and they tell you who rents it.PF.0 -
Many payg sims do not have to be registered with the company to be used and can be topped up without giving an identity.
I know that O2 and Virgin can be used quite anonymously by just putting the card into any suitable handset.
Orange has to be registered to get a number and I have never dealt with other networks so have no details.
If an unregistered O2 or Virgin card is being used even the network doesn't know who is using it, so there can be no way of knowing.0 -
The only thing you can do is determine which network the mobile number belongs to* by visiting www.magsys.co.uk and entering the number.
Therefore if you suspect its someone from work then check the above with the network they are on now (if you know).
* This will show the network the number was originally allocated to but if the mobile number has been ported since then this information isn't known.0
