I hope that the labour MPs will realise that it will have an effect on future elections and is something that will not go away. It is a pity that the effect on the low paid workers was not realised 12 months ago.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to re-think the
abolition of the 10p tax band
    .

So what is your stance (other than oblivious) on the new 10% savings band and the significantly increased personal allowances for those 65 or over .... all of which were introduced as part of this package?

Presumably they also go in the unlikely event anyone takes notice of the petition?

and the reduction in the standard rate
and the increased winter fuel allowance
and the increase in child allowance
and the increase in child tax credits
and the increase in working tax credits

Like all of us, you want to keep the good stuff whilst rejecting the not so good stuff.
  • Trouble is,good stuff announced at the last budget doesn't help divorced people like me who are on low wages and struggling.Asked my MP some 6 weeks ago about both this and the abolition of the 10p tax band via the Fax Your MP service.Never got an answer-not even an acknowledgement.
No wonder people get wound up about their MPs....

Why should the poorist paid people fund the better off. Among the losers are those under the age 25 earning under £18,000 and ineligible for working tax credits. Those like me who have retired early from work (due to sickness in my case) and ineligible for higher personal allowances. Part-time workers who are working insufficient hours to qualify for tax credits. These are the sort of people that Gordon Brown chose to ignore when he delivered his pre budget speech and still refuses to acknowledge when questioned.

Among the winners are those lucky enough to have an income in excess of £18,000, those aged over 65 earning under £18,000 but eligible for higher personal allowances and those earning under £18,000 with young children and therefore eligible for child tax credits.

This matter will not go away and the sooner Mr Brown realises this the better. He may just realise this after the Local Election results.

The good stuff is great .
But , as Wearside points out , there is a group that doesn't receive any of the benefits that you list . They just have extra tax deducted . No tax credits if you don't have children ; no fuel payment if you are under 65 ; no 10% savings rate if you have nothing to save . Just a higher tax bill , whilst everyone else pays less .

I don't want the new benefits removed . I do want the status quo restored for those who have lost out . They don't benefit from the good stuff.

To the government it is a paltry sum . To someone earning less than £18000 (before any deductions) , a further reduction of £100 - £200 is significant .

Restoring these people to where they were last tax year should not threaten everyone elses' new benefits .

My petition has been rejected because there is already a 10p tax deduction petition on the Downing St website . It was posted on 4th April .

I emailed Frank Field and have received a reply .

This is the connection for the petition :

The petition has been submitted by David Quarmby , and I don't seem to be able to put the link on here .
