I've been using this website www.listentotaxman.com for years. It's not accurate but extremely close.
First came across it on MSE a few years ago.
It tells you how better/worse off you are compared to the previous year.
The site owner has only just got round to including pension contributions... something s/he said s/he would do aaaages ago.
Also changed colour scheme from mint green to purple... woo hoo0 -
To quote the HMRC:
If you're a starting rate (10 per cent) taxpayer
You're quoting from a page that hasn't been updated from 2007-08 ...... and this thread relates to 08-09. There's no such thing as a '10% starting rate' any longer ..... that's the one that disappeared from 6th April.
The 10% Savings Band - which you appear to be relating to - is completely different to the 10% tax band. The 10% tax band was a fixture and everyone who paid tax hit it. The 10% Savings band is 'pseudo' as it only exists if 'income + gross savings' actually hits the band created by 'personal allowances + £2320 (the limit of the savings band)'If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0 -
Dont be fooled , my income is £12,500 per year and that goon in no 10 has made me £121 a year worse off, he says middle earners will be better off , what about us poor people , UP THE REVOLUTION. PS, I THINK US LOWER PAID WORKERS HAVE BEEN WELL AND TOTALLY SCREWED , WILL NEVER VOTE LABOUR AGAIN .0

Thanks. I've used this site before and didn't realise it had been updated for pensions. I have put my contribution rate in at 7%. However does anybody know what the Pension (HMRC) at 3% relates to??0 -

I was trying to point out that now is the time to claim for any money due for the tax year just ended - i.e. 2007/08
I thought this may affect the same people who might read this thread.0 -
I think we should all email our mp / msp, I did.And heard on Sky news that things were building on this.0

It may be wishful thinking on my part but the timings over the next fortnight should wipe that patronising smile off his face -
The 2008 Finance Bill must be passed by Parliament for the Budget changes to become law as I understand it (even though they have been implemented)
2nd reading of the Finance Bill is Monday 21st April (General Commons Debate)
Between 23rd and 25th April millions of pension payslips will drop through victims doors.
Labour MP's will [strike]probably[/strike] certainly get electoral "reminders" from these low pay victims which should focus their minds.
Committee Stage of the Finance Bill 28th and 29th April when the turkeys could start voting for Christmas.
Sit back and watch the fun then remind your kids what can happen when you skip maths at school!"It's nice to be important but more important to be nice"

I have received my company pension figures for the next year today and have found that I will be £87 worse off. I cannot claim any benefits, so have to accept that I am one of the many that Gordon Brown forgot when he withdrew the 10p Tax Band. I have written to my MP reminding her of Ex-minister Frank Field's tabled amendment to the finance bill demanding compensation for those affected and that MPs will vote on it next week. I have advised my MP that if she fails to support the amendment, I will not be voting for either her nor the labour Party in the future.
I would ask all MSE members to write to their own MPs in a similar manner. This site makes it so easy to do after you have input your Post Code.

Listening to the radio today , the protests are gathering pace .
IS THERE AN ONLINE OR ANY OTHER SORT OF PETITION ?
How do you start one of those No 10 petitions ?
Unfortunately , many of the people affected by this are unlikely to be online . However , any visible protest may have an effect .
Can anyone suggest a way to mobilise as many as possible into as "loud" a protest as possible as soon as possible ?
Is there a pressure group of Low Income Citizens ?
I feel so incensed that a labour government should introduce this . And , from listening to today's discussions , it will be horribly complicated and expensive to compensate us victims . And , by the nature of finance bills , it will only compensate for one year and will have to be reintroduced each year .
There are so many of us . There has to be a way we can make ourselves heard !
