Yes Kaupthing Edge, i am in the military serving in Cyprus i am finding it extremely difficult to open a account, however i have now, i had to telephone and explained that i was serving in a overseas country, whilst living in my own property and that there application process does not allow for people like me to apply, after a long chat they made a special "one off" for me to open an account, i had to provide plenty of evidence in support of my application. I did tell them that i would go to the FSA because they are being discriminate in my case, i wonder if my threat made them see sense??? and i wonder how many other people in my situation have the same problems. I have just applied for a HISAVE account with ICCI and put my BFPO address in the UK address block, they were having none of it!! I have just applied again using my Cypriot home address under the UK residential block, watch the fun and games begin, i know i will win this battle but the effort and stress i will go through will make my blood presure rise somewhat.

Any thoughts about this are welcome. Paul
Explaining yourself to someone from Nottingham is one thing (ie, Kaupthing Edge) - trying to get the message across to someone in Bangalore (or wherever) should be fun :D

You could always threaten to come over and shoot them...?

    Good luck!
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...

Doesn't the military administration have some kind of system for dealing with this sort of situation - after all, soldiers serving abroad must always be needing to have banking facilities.

ISTR from acquaintances in the US military that they got a US address (eg Box 1234, Fort Something, Nebraska) with a US Zip code to which they could order things from Amazon etc - Amazon deliver to Fort Something and the military would then ship them the goods whereever in the world they were.

Does your regiment not forward mail sent to its home base? How do you pay your usual gas bills etc when you're on active service (if you don't have a partner at home)? Or does it all require use of BFPO?

You can use your BFPO address for almost everything and it is a very good system, my problem is if i use this address to open a account they ask you to provide utility bills etc to prove it is your address, well it's not its a work address and therefor i am unable to provide this evidence.

But have you asked your administration about this? What do they recommend - you cannot be the only soldier who wants to open a savings account.
