Hello, im sure this would have been on here before but i dont have the time to search, so appologies in advance. My step-daughter is staying with us for a few days and she has head lice, i wondered if there was an alternative i could use on her hair instead of the chemicals from the chemists. She is 10, i will also need to treat my 3yo daughter too. As we are in to money saving i wondered if there is an old fashioned remedy that has been effective

I think they recommend just 'combing' nowadays as many of the products just don't work anymore....
Wash hair and put lots of conditioner on and just comb and comb and comb with a nit comb... it needs to be done regularly if they are coming into contact with it at school.... my daughter does her kids hair as part of bathtime routine.....
I am not sure if I would be happy putting chemicals on a 3yr old head

There is a product called Hedrin which is supposed to be very safe and very effective. I've never used it but I've heard good things about it. Apparently you can get it on prescription from your gp now too so it won't cost a penny (if you get it in your daughters name)0

The only remedy that really works is putting loads of conditioner on and combing with a proper nit comb. And doing it every 3 days for 2 weeks or thereabouts."Harry, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don't plan it. Don't wait for it. Just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair, or two cups of good, hot black coffee."0

I did well condition sd's hair and comb it through yesterday, but she seems to have quite a few, i just wondered if there was a more effective way of clearing them. She has long hair too, so it takes ages! Now little one is scratching, HELP! going mad
Also how often do i have to wash bedding and pillow cases because of the head lice, normally do bedding about every 9 days?

Lice don't live away from the scalp and infestation is via them crawling from hair to hair, so laundry I don't think is an issue. However, if infested with Scabies on the other hand you would need to wash bedding in boil wash every 3 days, until the little b*ggers are dead!just in case you need to know:
