is there any lotion to put on my daughter has fine long hair so its easy to put a comb through
Its a set of 4 combs which are 2 mini combs and 2 bigger ones. One of the combs is designed to take away the shells so you dont have un sightly shells on the hair.
Basically wash hair and use these combs using conditioner to get rid of live lice and the shells. Its the design of the comb which makes it easier to treat the head and get rid of everything. My Daughter has long, thick hair and I have used these combs on her hair with no problems, as long as you use conditioner it should be fine.
Heres the link again for anyone who missed the link earlier and again its FREE on prescription0 -
I haven't read the whole thread,as it's too late and I should be in bed! But i'm addicted to this site, and I just wanted to mention the nitty gritty comb,I got one off ebay while ago (cost me £10,but well worth it)I noticed on a different MSE "nit" themed thread that it is now available on prescription( see left hand side of link)
http://www.nittygritty.co.uk/ng/index.jsp?page=/productInfo.jsp&productId=3
I made my kids school aware of this ,I don't know if this is why,but there seem to of been a lot less nit out breaks at sch since.
Before I discovered this comb I was spending hours on end for weeks picking through my 3 protesting kids hair( after realizing the varios chemical solutions DO NOT WORK) with this it gets most out(including eggs) with one good comb through with lots of conditioner in the bath(rinse comb in a jug of water).
It is soo good, everyone with children should have one and check kids every so often whether you think they have nits or not.If everyone did this,I'm sure the whole problem could be greatly reduced, spread the word, your Dr can give your kids one free, those plastic things are useless.
(I'm not sure if this is any help to the OP,as I have no knowledge of the skin disorder, big hugs to the excluded boy-not that he'd want hugs at that age, proberbly just go uurrgghh get off!-it can't be easy beed singled out at sch for that, kids can be really insensitive and mean)
Come on people together we can fight off the nits!0 -

have just bought some new treatment for headlice i have read about in nursing press recently,
its called lice attack ( boots and lloyds) its based on coconut oil and although at £12 odd so not cheap its a shampoo so will last so much longer than other treatments and its none toxic!!!
apparently its based on research done in brazil i think ,where they have noticed that children in poor areas dont seem to get the little critters, basicly because their mums use shampoo based on coconut oil, pack also comes with a comb with a magnifying glass attached so you can see the little beasties up close
apply shampoo day 1 ,7 and 14

Doesn't that sting like mad though? I can't hold Listerine in my mouth for more than 30 seconds with it hurting, I dread to think what it would feel like on my (or my childs) head for 2 hours! :eek:0 -
Exactly what i was going to say
Im all for getting rid of nits but not if my child is screaming for 2 hours saying it stings perhaps it dont sting so could you tell us please0 -
My daughter suffers from psoriasis on her head, thank god it's just on her head, my brother also suffered from it when he was younger.
She is supposed to sleep at night with this horrid smelling gel on and wash it off in the mornings, and this is everyday  Before she had this she had a cream which got rid of it within two days, but it kept coming back. This Gel is supposed to be better. I must admit after a while my daughter got upset with the ruetine, so we keep to just doing it at weekends. The thing is it hasn't got rid of it. It's just as well she has long hair to cover it, it must be worse for a boy with short hair. My brothers psoriasis noticed on his head when he cut it short to minimise catching headlice. Kids teased him, so by cutting the boys hair into a short crew cut, he may not like it.
I wish there was something else that the Doctors could prescribe that would get rid quickly.0 -
My two caught nits, the little one got them from nursery and then passed them on. I comb their hair everyday, it's been cut short and I do their hair everyday with conditioner and use a nitty gritty comb. They haven't had them back and I also spray their hair with a coconut leave in conditioner. I use Nice n Clear lotion, stinks to high heaven but works. I don't give the little b*****s a chance, the kids are clear now but only due to my combing them everyday. The little one can be clear in the morning and come back home in the afternoon with his head crawling with full grown ones, yeeuch. Drives me mad and has cost me a fortune but the only way to keep the blighters at bay is combing with conditioner, keeping hair short too. You can get Nitty Gritty comb on prescription and I'd highly recommend it. The comb I bought initially was totally !!!!!!, an instrument of torture and just pulled the kids hair out. Nitty Gritty is a lot better and gets everything out. There is a letter on the website which you can print off to give to your doctor to be able to get it on prescription. See here...

Good luck.
Read this about Rapeseed oil/Canola Oil
Is Canola a biopesticide?
A biopesticide is a type of pesticide that is derived from natural materials and is inherently less toxic than conventional pesticides. Canola is classified as a biopesticide, and works by suffocating pests, not poisoning them. In general, vegetable oils are recommended as a non-chemical insect control method.“Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you.” - Oscar Wilde0 -
Strangely enough, my 2 elder sons have really thick, lush black hair, (often get compliments on how shiny and well conditioned it is, they get is from their father). However, lice used to love it! After numerous attempts to delouse with practicularly all the over the counter remedies, I think I found the solution.
I started shampooing their hair with Bodyshop Tangerine bubble bath/shower gel. The fragrance is so strong and citrussy and lasts for days on their hair. Since then, they did not seem to get lice at all. I started washing their younger brother's hair with the same, and he has only had lice once ( and he is 7 years old now).
I would urge anyone suffering with an infestation to try this product as a deterrant rather than a cure, but Hey ! it worked for me !keep smiling,
