I strongly recommend The Welbeck Hotel in Nottingham (I stayed there last year). There is an adjacent car park and it is within easy walking distance of all the shops. More useful to you is that it is about 150 yards from Rock City.
You can book on line here:
    www.welbeck-hotel.co.uk;)

another vote for the welbeck. rock city's carpark is next to the entrance to the hotel (and its only 10 minutes to the arena)

as for things to do, it all depends on what sort of things you like. i notice the (rescheduled) paramore date is on a thursday. it's student night after the gig finishes. cheap booze, but you may feel a tad old. you may be better off in the rescue rooms next door after the gig. it's not a clubnight, but it will (probably) be a lot more suitable for a few beers before crawling back to the hotel

for local info, try the rock city/rescue rooms forums and leftlion (a local events magazine)

as for seeing people getting stabbed up. Ive lived here 10 years and NEVER seen anything like this. but then i avoid market square at weekends and live in a relatively nice area of town.

Nottingham is a great place to stay, lots to do and see,Rutland square is a very nice hotel and is very close to the city centre and is very near Nottingham castle, I have stayed there and the rooms and hotel are very nice, they have limited parking in front of the hotel.

Stoneman, perhaps it`s time for a move. Isn`t Mapperly Park Kerb Crawlers domain!
No, thats Mapperly Road, seems you know alot about it though.;) (only joking)
Ah, I almost forgot, thats another reason to visit, loads of 13 year old crack w****s hanging around there, great place to get cut up as well.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

If you live in Lenton stoneman, it's no wonder you see crime. It's nasty!

Most of Nottingham is lovely, every city has bad areas. stoneman lives in one of Nottingham's worst!

 My sons student accommodation is in Lenton.

Or he could lodge with you if you live in a nice area, he's house trained. :D

Thanks to all for the advice.

Have been looking round at all the suggestions and others I have seen and it seems parking is definitely going to be the main issue. There are a couple that are about a mile out that seem to have free parking. Best Western, Premier Travel Inn (although I know there are a few of those).

Seems to be more difficult a decision than I first thought.

But thanks everyone for all the advice, if anything else comes to anyones minds then please let me know... much appreciated

Best Western has limited parking, around hotel. Very tight bays, not easy to get in or out with anything but a mini

Hi a load of us went to Rock City in August and we stayed in a place called the Gresham, I'm not recommending it if you want a clean bed but if you want cheap and a good breakfast its not bad, bang next to the train station.

If you want a cool rock/metal pub go to the Pit and Pendulum...it's awesome.

I wish I had known Boyzone had reformed, I went to see them three times when they played Sheffield back in the day!!!!

Yea I saw the Gresham listed and had a quick look, very cheap and I guess you get what you pay for. But for the amount of time to be spent in the hotel I wouldnt want to be paying TOO much!

There are tickets still available for some Boyzone concerts if you did still want to go. :T
