You want to stop that speed reading, where does it say I live in Lenton? If you live in Lenton stoneman, it's no wonder you see crime. It's nasty!
Most of Nottingham is lovely, every city has bad areas. stoneman lives in one of Nottingham's worst!
I live in Mapperley Park, another bad area of Nottingham:rolleyes:The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -
I strongly recommend The Welbeck Hotel in Nottingham (I stayed there last year). There is an adjacent car park and it is within easy walking distance of all the shops. More useful to you is that it is about 150 yards from Rock City.
You can book on line here:

I agree with everyone else on Hotels. Nottingham's great:j. Go see "the trip to jerusalem" http://www.triptojerusalem.com/. Then visit "the galleries of justice" http://www.galleriesofjustice.org.uk/. Also "caves of nottingham" in the broad marsh shopping centre http://www.cityofcaves.com/ . Or you could go "ice skating http://www.national-ice-centre.com/. Also ride the trams just for fun, or just site in "what the locals call slab square (the centre). There is also an area called the corner house and the newly opened Trinity Square for restaurants, etc. I moved to Nottingham 18 years ago and love the atmosphere of the town.0

Having tried and tested some hotels in and around nottingham, if you want central location my advice is this:
Park Plaza is probably the best hotel for price, quality and location all put together. If you can splash out a bit more, I'd recommend the Lace Market Hotel. The Holiday Inn Express just off Market Square is not very cheap and is not very good quality. I'd steer away. Jury's Inn is also decent, but about a 5 minute walk from town centre, located next to Capital One, right opposite the Train Station.0 -
Oh has booked the Premier Inn, which is only a few100yrds from the arena, for when we go to see Queen in October0

:rotfl: I lived in Lenton when I was student, its true it does have the street that is the most burgled in Notts! However, apart from that, I felt quite safe there. 99% of students are harmless- They don't want trouble and they stick to the student areas and student clubs. Its some of the locals that give Notts its bad name. Don't worry, Notts city centre is relatively safe, most of the trouble is in the areas surrounding Notts (Bulwell, Ilkeston, Kimberley) but as Dmg24, all large cities have their 'bad' areas.
If you have a car, maybe have a drive to Sherwood Forest and see the major Oak (the tree where Robin Hood may have lived- Its huge!).Competition Challenge 2007 - Win your internet fees back in prizes = £349.87/£1560 -
My girlfriend is from Nottingham. I always have a laugh about the castle. I suppose at least they have a castle unlike Newcastle where I was born. I have been informed by my other half that it is very nice inside and has nice grounds.
I can vouch for the Lace market. It is very nice around there. Don't stop at the Travelodge in the centre. It is a dump and only suitable for stag nights. There is another near the river but I have not been to that one.
You should have a look in the Trip to Jurusalam pub which is in the rock beneath the castle. It claims to be Englands oldest inn : -

Stupid.
As Nottingham has one of the best shopping areas in the UK now, I don't know why anyone would suggest going to Derby! Victoria Centre is the better of the two shopping centres, but there are also lots of other shops around the rest of the city centre, centred around Clumber Street and the Market Square.
You can have a great night out in Nottingham, but Rock City and Boyzone are pretty diverse, so I'm not sure where to suggest! I would say to go to the Lace Market/ Hockley for the Boyzone night, and then Rock City (you can stay in there all night) and the pubs around there that night (if you like students?).
Enjoy! x
Shopping - depends where you come from. Newcastle, Leeds, Sheffield, Birmingham are far better for shopping. Nottingham City coucil was very "hurt" when Harvey Nicks turned the city down.
Broadmarsh centre is tacky, and very tired looking with down market shops. Victoria Centre is better, but is desparate for a make over to bring it up to-date. Probably why Derby was suggested for shopping with its new centre.0 -
